Overview


Delve Search is a global recruitment business working with biotechnology businesses to hire and build great teams. We are currently representing a long-standing partner who manufactures spectroscopy instrumentation and consumables. Due to growth, they are searching for an Area Sales Manager to join their team based in California.


The company is a well-established, German business with a strong foothold in the global market. They supply their instrumentation support applications across the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical and Chemical sectors. Boasting over 11,000 installations worldwide and referenced in 16,000 scientific publications, they are a trusted name in the global scientific community.


With a revenue target of $2.4 million for the year, their sales strategy combines direct sales efforts with the support of their in-country partner. With a 16-year presence in the USA, the business has strategically positioned sales specialists across the West Coast, East Coast, and Mid-West regions.


The Role


As Sales Manager, your role is pivotal in expanding their footprint within the Biotechnology, Bio Pharmaceutical, Industrial, and Academic sectors. This involves guiding and mentoring a small sales team, setting achievable targets, and monitoring performance to ensure objectives are met or exceeded. Additionally, you'll be actively engaging with customers through in-person and online presentations, meetings, and relationship-building activities, travelling up to 40% for conferences and training.



Other Responsibilities


  • Take full responsibility for product sales strategy and performance across the defined territory
  • Develop and implement innovative customer support, acquisition and customer retention strategies
  • Provide technical support to the existing distributor networks across the USA
  • Training distribution partners on existing and new products and support with in-person meetings on customers' sites
  • Represent the company at trade fairs and conferences nationally and internationally
  • Create market and competition analysis and give feedback on product ideas, possible product improvements or new applications to marketing


The Person


You will be a product expert supporting the company's distributor network, being an expert in molecular biology, biochemistry or associated fields is an important part of this role.

You will be expected to understand the scientific needs of customers and be able to make technical recommendations for which equipment would be best suited to their needs.


You do not have to have experience of managing people but a passion for supporting the development and performance of others is a must!


  • You have completed a university degree in biology or biochemistry and have practical experience with molecular-biological working methods
  • You will already have sales experience working for a distributor selling in to biology applications - ideally 3-5 years
  • Culture is a small, dynamic business. The team is relatively small and the Area Sales Manager will be required to be dynamic/ adaptable and a good problem solver.
  • You are strong in building effective relationship management and enjoy travelling
  • You are fluent in negotiations at all levels and appear confident
  • You have a high degree of self-motivation, personal responsibility and team spirit
