Job Description

Role purpose

This section describes the overall purpose of the role, why it exists and how it adds value to the business. It is a summary list of up to six statements for key result areas where the role holder will have decision making responsibility.

  • To implement, manage & monitor hybrid seeds activities for Vegetables crops to achieve target Reliability & Quality in Small Seed Vegetable (SSV) Crops.
  • Responsible to document, audit & drive HSE, Compliance and CSR initiatives as per Syngenta policy.
  • To Implement the process in align with SOPs in key critical areas to avoid non-compliance.
  • Train production stakeholders (Growers, Vendors & Field associates) on Continuous improvement, Operational Excellence, Agile practices helping them to achieve their targets in efficient manner.
  • Keep abreast of seed operations trends, create sustainable post-harvest protocols which helps to deliver quality standards.
  • Identify and prioritize critical projects with a focus on continuous improvement in quality, and process efficiency.

Accountabilities

  • To ensure area and grower achievement on time in line with specific Vegetable crop requirement
  • Execute the specific crop field agronomy strategies to achieve defined quality and quantity.
  • To manage a team of production supervisors as per requirement
  • To identify and manage grower level technical issues in his area of field production.
  • Execute production SOP’s for achieving full compliance and functional excellence in key areas.
  • Coordinate to get timely basic seed & other non-seed material to be received at location as per the need.
  • Generates effective communications, good relations, and a positive image with internal stake holders, suppliers and co- workers, promoting teamwork.
  • Identify and initiate corrective action of non-conformance in documentation and processes.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, Environment, Security and CSR policies of organization and drive down the line and also ensure timely reporting of related information.
  • Conduct high quality of field trials, identify right fields & growers, and ensure proper field production practices, harvesting and post harvesting as per company protocols.
  • Always maintain product security and confidentiality. Ensure 100% compliance & right process implementations while conducting and performing all the activities.
  • Responsible for timely documentation and reporting of field data in nursery, field and PHO and periodical reports.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

This section is intended to capture the critical capabilities which the role-holder needs to perform the role effectively from the outset. These are both technical and non-technical in nature. You should focus on the role needs rather than capabilities of the present role incumbent.

  • Minimum of 4 to 6 years working experience seed production
  • Fluent in English, Kannada and Hindi.
  • Should have valid 4-wheeler driving licence.
  • Willing to work across the locations/states.
  • Willing to travel frequently across the production fields.
  • With a university degree in MSc (agri).

Critical knowledge

This concerns the 'know-how' to perform the role, which may have been gained through academic study (degree, education, and certificates), business qualifications, or on-the-job experience. Specify the type of knowledge required (e.g. of specific functional knowledge, particular systems or processes and to what level), not the know-how of the incumbent.

  • Basic technical knowledge on Seed production processes.
  • Good at stakeholder management, communication, trainings & documentation.
  • Sound knowledge of agricultural inputs (fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides).
  • Basic knowledge in MS Office

Critical experience

This concerns the type and minimum length of relevant experience required to effectively perform the role. This includes experience/familiarity with particular processes or systems, dealing with certain products or services, and/or the experience of dealing with others - both internally and externally.

  • Minimum 3 to 4 years of Hands-on experience in vegetable seed production.
  • Basic agronomical experiences related to vegetable seed production.
  • A good team player
  • Managing growers/grower leader with confidence.

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

This concerns the technical, professional or personal capabilities that are required to perform the role effectively. These may be very specific technical skills relating to the nature of the work (e.g. project planning), language skills and personal skills specific for the role (e.g. the ability to assess and resolve problems and conflicts, the ability to influence and gain support, the ability to quickly learn and apply new skills, the ability to handle pressure, etc.)

  • A basic knowledge of productivity improvement,
  • Focus on Quality aspects of Vegetables crop productions.
  • Working relation with farmers, NFTE and Organizers
  • Receptive for change and adoption of new technologies
  • Proficiency in local language and English.
  • A good team player and a good problem solver
