Overview: The Archaeologist will be responsible for conducting a Phase I archaeological survey at the Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory (ADOL) property in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. This role requires the identification and evaluation of archaeological resources for their eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Key Responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive Phase I archaeological survey of the ADOL site
Identify and document all archaeological resources within the project area
Evaluate the NRHP eligibility of identified resources
Review property records provided by the USDA-ARS Midwest Area office and local repositories
Gather historic information including maps, aerial photographs, and federal, state, and local records
Compile a concise report including background research, historic context, and findings of the archaeological survey
Qualifications:
Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology
Proven experience in conducting Phase I archaeological surveys
Strong knowledge of NRHP eligibility criteria and documentation standards
Excellent research, analytical, and documentation skills
Proficient in historical documentation and archaeological site evaluation
