Aquatic Program - Adult Swim Coach

Responsible for the training and operation of specific programs for the Coached Aquatics and Summer Swim programs.

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Coached Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatics Program Specialist.

Supervision Exercised: Responsible for supervising Coached Aquatic Staff I & II as directed by the Coached Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatic Program Specialist.

Examples of Duties: The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Assists in training, scheduling, and supervising Coached Aquatic Staff I & II.
  • Responsible for all aspects of program including lesson plans, staffing, participant’s progression and interaction with parents.
  • Ensures program adheres to the highest standards of quality and provides all participants with a fair and valuable experience.
  • Responsible for the safety of participants and coaches while always adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Establishes a balance between the competitive and recreational aspects of all Coached Aquatics and Summer Swim Programs.
  • Extensive interaction with parents involved in the Summer Swim program.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Standards: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a busy aquatic environment where noise and interruptions prevail. Ability to safely extricate individuals of varying weight from a pool, with or without assistance, at any given time. Work will also be performed in different types of conditions including, but not limited to, heat, humidity, snow, rain and wind. Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Must be able to stand/ walk/ rove for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per shift. Manual dexterity is needed to perform the functions of this position. The ability to talk and hear through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/ remove a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds with assistance. EOE

Ability to effectively coach and train large numbers of children. Ability to react effectively to all potential mental, physical and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a first responder. Ability to communicate with members, staff and the public in a courteous and effective manner. American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety certification is preferred. Must pass a drug and background screening. EOE

Coaching hours are flexible, weekday mornings 6:15 - 7:30 and 10:00 - 11:00 and additional coaching times are also available.

Education: High school graduate.

Experience: Two years previous coaching experience preferred and previous collegiate or USMS swim experience preferred.
