What Will Be Your Environment
The role is located at our Brecksville, Ohio headquarters. This role will support the TempRite team. The samples that this team creates and the tests that they run (and enable other groups to run) lead to the generation of the data that the TempRite R&D team used to defend existing business, support growth, and drive innovation.
What You'll Do
As an Applications Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for converting raw materials into testable product. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life.
What We're Looking For
Deliver accurate and timely laboratory results while demonstrating Lubrizol Cultural Beliefs and
ensuring safe working conditions.
Conduct experiments according to defined operating procedures, including operation of Henschel mixers, 2-roll mill, pipe extrusion, pipe fitting injection molding and compression molding machines.
Continuously improve work practices and procedures to enhance safety, efficiency, quality of testing.
Identify, troubleshoot, and work closely with scientists, engineers, and business partners to resolve issues or problems, and appropriately elevate situations to scientists, engineers, manager and/or business partner when necessary.
Recognize validity of test data, evaluate data to ensure accuracy prior to communicating results, and notify manger regarding non-conformances and work to identify root causes of inconsistent test data.
Document test data in Excel and Lubrizol’s internal software.
Articulate and communicate lab results to scientist, manager, and business partners with timely status updates.
Assemble, prepare, and maintain extrusion, injection molding, and other test equipment.
Perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on equipment, as defined in SOPs; elevate and collaborate with appropriate partners to resolve deficiencies.
Practice hazard recognition in daily work activities. Seek to improve and promote the safety, organization, environmental impact and efficiency of the work area.
Recognize priority conflicts; escalate conflicts to supervision and offer recommendations to best accomplish work based on knowledge and understanding of processes.
Follow the flexible workforce mindset, seeking to cross-train to help areas of highest need focusing on overall group needs.
Skills That Make a Difference
High school diploma or GED
At least one year of experience in a R&D lab, manufacturing, or similar industrial/academic setting
Observational and recordkeeping skills to track conditions, procedures, deviations, and results of experiments.
Analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate not only the results of experiments but also the procedures used to obtain them as well as identify root causes of any problems.
Working knowledge of core mathematical/statistical concepts.
Computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office).
Demonstrated ability to function in a team environment and accomplished shared goals.
Able to wear necessary PPE (including full face respirator)
Able to repeatedly lift 55 pounds
Able to become certified to drive a forklift
Be available for occasional off-hours / weekend work
Considered a Plus
Degree or professional certification in polymer science / processing or another science-related field
Experience in plastic or rubber manufacturing and/or testing
Working knowledge of plastics extrusion and/or injection molding
Forklift driving experience
Lock Out Tag Out experience
Emergency Response experience
Knowledge of Lubrizol’s internal Research Applications such as ChemTestInfo, Results Uploader, gLIMS, REx, Information Warehouse, etc.
Familiarity with Lubrizol products, intermediates, and raw material
