Will support the development and characterization of specific products or formulations of what are used in emulsion polymerization, coatings, or construction. Under the supervision of a senior scientist, in this role as an Application Scientist, you will synthesize formulations and carry out industry wide application tests on prototype products for the purpose to link the formulation performance to the chemistry. In addition, these prototype products must be tested for stability using standard methods in the industry. This position is a lab-based role as a bench chemist within the Industrial Team interacting with the rest of the technical and commercial teams. This position will be reporting to the Technical Manager located at the Technical Center R&D site and will be part of the global technical team.
Main Responsibilities:
Develop knowledge om the various applications serviced by the Industrial business. This will enable providing structure-performance relationships in the chemistries used in these applications
Based on this knowledge, test existing products as well as create novel chemistries and/or formulations with supervision form a senior scientist that matches or exceeds currently used products in this industry
Assist in the progress of development of products through proper stages of project management – from inception to commercialization
Carry out the testing of these new products in lab environment using standard equipment to include performance and stability assessment
Work collaboratively with the Industrial Global team and external testing facilities to evaluate products
Work on both internal and customer projects within the agreed timelines
Produce samples on Laboratory scale – for use in initial testing
Keep accurate records of lab activities, issue detailed technical reports in a reasonable time frame and, when required, prepare effective PowerPoint presentations to present internal projects to the technical and business teams
Implement and meet applicable company safety standards relevant to the R&D function to ensure a safe working environment
When appropriate, will assist in drafting invention disclosures on patentable work
Candidate will spend at least 90% of the working time in the lab with limited time allotted to administrative responsibilities and/or travel to conferences

Technical Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering
Familiarity with basic analytical chemistry techniques
A creative, logical, and analytical mind with ability to drive the work program forward with attention to detail, good planning, organization, and communication skills
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office
