Position Title: Application Engineer Department: Sales - 980

Basic Job Function:
Working under general direction, performs work independently and as part of the Inside Sales Team, including the Territory Team which includes Outside Territory Sales Representative, BDO, Project Coordinator, and Sales Coordinator and/or customers. Primary responsibilities include communicating with customers and representatives to ensure all material required for proper release is received and is accurate, ensuring that the details presented for bid is in accordance with the strategic parameters of Peerless Products. Responsible for obtaining proper information needed for determining what product is best for quoting, whether it be in communication with the sales representative or customer. Engineers are responsible for keeping customers up to date on product offerings and educating customers on best product offerings and applications for projects. Engineers are responsible for any new extrusions or parts that are required for a project. Engineers have to enter and verify all new extrusions and parts are working properly after being added to the 2D Program. Engineers must work with IT on any new Fabrication to get it into the 2D System. Engineers are responsible for managing multiple programs within 2D including but not limited to Fab Tracker, Configuration Manager, Frame Manager, and Parts Master. Application Engineers must keep all CAD Files up to date and current. CAD Files include but are not limited to Window Assemblies, Accessory Assemblies, Mitered Receptor Systems (DIRS), End Dams, Break Metal, and any other files that the Engineers use daily. Engineers must work with Production on anything custom and verify it will work.
Primary essential duties/responsibilities:
Manage all details and overrides for quotes in a timely and accurate manner.
Make sure all Fabrications and any Custom processes are in the system and working properly before releasing a Project.
Ensures the details being shown will work and is the best solution for the project based on Peerless Guidelines and offerings.
Ensure all necessary project documentation and communications are handled in a professional and timely manner.
Communicate on regular basis with customer/sales rep (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly.)
Ensure all projects are being bid in the best and most accurate manner to help Peerless Products and our customer have the best opportunity at winning the project.
May be responsible for acting as a team/project leader and training other staff in applicable areas of demonstrated expertise.
Other duties may include supporting other departments or territories as needed or as business needs determine necessary.
All members are expected to be a team player with the company and take extra steps to benefit the needs of the company.
Skills and Qualifications:
Duties require knowledge of, and the ability to use well, the fundamental concepts and practices of sales.
Education: High school diploma or equivalency
Experience: 1-3 years work experience preferred.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be people oriented and customer driven.
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook, AutoCad, Inventor or Equivalent 3D Program.
Must be willing and able to become proficient in the use of proprietary software package used for estimating and project management.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment required.
Must have the ability to develop technical skills required to perform the job.
Must have experience with direct customer sales, service or data entry.
Must have the ability to work without direct supervision.
Must have a working knowledge of the construction industry.
Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Must have the aptitude for detail-oriented work.
Must be professional in conduct and communication with coworkers as well as individuals outside the organization.
Position Expectations:
30 Day Expectations:
At the end of the first 30 days, Application Engineers shall:
Exhibit proficiency in 2D and identify common components and accessories. Exhibit excellent communication skills.
Leadership will require improvement activities if deficiencies are found in any area of performance.
60- Day Expectations:
Application Engineer shall exhibit progress in the quoting process including communication with assigned sales rep and customers, begin making product/option recommendations for quoting.
Demonstrate ability to manage workload and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Be fluent using Auto Cad and Inventor as it pertains to Engineering Processes.
60-day evaluation will be made, and any issues can be identified and a plan for correction will be created to assist in Application Engineer’s progress.
90 Day Expectations:
Application Engineer shall exhibit the ability to perform Engineering responsibilities with minimal guidance including thorough understanding of quoting strategy, the incorporation of Value Engineering (VE) options, territory performance, and increasing product knowledge.
Be able to convert Quotes into Sales Orders in 2D and perform the proper checks to verify everything is correct before going into Production.
90 day evaluation of overall performance will be given and a plan to improve any deficiencies will be created.
120 Day Expectations:
Application Engineer shall be given a territory or specific projects to manage.
Projects need to be managed and completed with clear expectations and communication to the customer.
Customer should understand clearly what is needed to provide accurate and timely quotes.
Application Engineer should also understand Peerless’ process and procedures for providing timely and accurate quotes.
All documentation pertaining to any Quotes/Sales Orders shall be scanned and documented.
Application Engineer should fully understand what is required of the Application Engineering position.
As an Application Engineer, you will play a vital role as part of the team. A major function of your role as Application Engineer will include your position within the Territory Team, which will be further explained in the Standard Work and will be explained as part of your training. The essential function of the job requires the employee to be working full time at the Peerless facility.
All Application Engineers will be graded on internal performance and goals set forth by management.
