Are you passionate about chemical analysis and making a positive impact on public health? Join our Chemistry Laboratory team at IDOH and work on a stimulating project analyzing samples for antibiotics and a range of contaminants in wastewater for a wastewater epidemiology project.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemical or physical science from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an analytical chemist.
Complex Chemical Analysis:
- Conduct sophisticated chemical analysis on environmental, food, or clinical samples to detect contaminants using advanced instrumentation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from EPA, FDA, or CLIA.
- Uphold Quality Assurance standards.
- Maintain and repair laboratory equipment to keep it in optimal working condition.
- Pass Proficiency Testing (PT) samples to stay proficient in technical skills.
- Implement preventative maintenance on assigned instrumentation.
- Keep accurate records, including maintaining instrument logbooks and preparing technical reports.
- Update standard operating procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
- Create a safe and organized work environment with adherence to safety protocols.
- Receive training on various analytical procedures within the laboratory.
- Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and stakeholders to address analytical challenges.
- Support the supervisor with assigned tasks as needed.
- Engage in scientific analyses that require precision and problem-solving skills.
- Handle complex variables and unique sample matrices.
- Exercise analytical judgment and technical expertise to reach accurate conclusions.
- May be called upon to provide expert testimony for legal proceedings.
- Collaborate with colleagues and representatives from state, local, and federal agencies.
- Work together to solve analytical challenges and interpret federal requirements.
- Ability to handle and prepare clinical specimens.
- Operate in a laboratory setting with potential hazards including compressed gases, flammable materials, and biohazards.
- Follow safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment for all.
