Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemical or physical science from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as an analytical chemist.
Responsibilities
Complex Chemical Analysis:
Conduct sophisticated chemical analysis on environmental, food, or clinical samples to detect contaminants using advanced instrumentation.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from EPA, FDA, or CLIA.
Uphold Quality Assurance standards.
Instrumentation Maintenance
Maintain and repair laboratory equipment to keep it in optimal working condition.
Pass Proficiency Testing (PT) samples to stay proficient in technical skills.
Implement preventative maintenance on assigned instrumentation.
Documentation And Safety
Keep accurate records, including maintaining instrument logbooks and preparing technical reports.
Update standard operating procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
Create a safe and organized work environment with adherence to safety protocols.
Training And Collaboration
Receive training on various analytical procedures within the laboratory.
Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and stakeholders to address analytical challenges.
Support the supervisor with assigned tasks as needed.
Challenging Environment
Engage in scientific analyses that require precision and problem-solving skills.
Handle complex variables and unique sample matrices.
Exercise analytical judgment and technical expertise to reach accurate conclusions.
May be called upon to provide expert testimony for legal proceedings.
Work Relationships
Collaborate with colleagues and representatives from state, local, and federal agencies.
Work together to solve analytical challenges and interpret federal requirements.
Physical Requirements
Ability to handle and prepare clinical specimens.
Working Environment
Operate in a laboratory setting with potential hazards including compressed gases, flammable materials, and biohazards.
