All School | Community Safety and Security Officer | Part Time

Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for the position of part-time Community Safety Officer for Saturday and Sunday day shifts typically from 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Responsibilities


  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors.
  • Patrol and monitor the premises per written plan/post orders.
  • Focus on access points to the building and property.
  • Report incidences and irregularities to proper personnel.
  • Protect property, staff, students from theft, damage, trespassing or accidents.
  • Provide a visible presence that enforces safety and security.
  • Contact and work with local police as needed.
  • Identify and investigate suspicious behavior, threats and irregular activity.
  • Respond to alarms per directive from the Facilities Director or Director of Community Safety.
  • Maintain general knowledge of how alarms function and be able to follow response requirements for fire alarms.
  • Monitor and control entrance and departure of employees, students and visitors according to prescribed protocol.
  • Detect and confront unauthorized persons and violators of security procedures.
  • Enforce relevant laws and regulations pertaining to all individuals on the property.
  • Report rule infractions and violations. Monitor and prevent movement of prohibited items into and out of property.
  • Conduct exterior property checks.
  • Conduct interior building patrols.
  • Secure and unlock exterior doors when needed.
  • Contact relevant authorities to deal with unlawful or irregular activities.
  • Use radio or other communication devices in a clear and concise manner.
  • Follow prescribed emergency plans in case of emergency.
  • Contribute to team by communicating well and providing support
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
  • Satisfactory completion of three criminal background checks.


Requirements And Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Possess a current and valid Washington State Driver’s license, good driving record and be able to operate school vehicles
  • Two to three years previous experience as a security guard preferred.
  • Experience in a customer related field preferred.
  • Successfully pass national and state background checks
  • Knowledge of state laws and regulations
  • Working knowledge of security operations and safety practices
  • Enforce policies and procedures
  • Ability to work and communicate cooperatively with co-workers, staff and contractors
  • Ability to work independently and ask for assistance when necessary
  • Attend required meetings and adhere to Lakeside School policies at all times

Working Conditions and Work Environment

  • Must ascend and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for at least two hours without rest.
  • As work is mostly outside, must be able to tolerate and perform duties in extreme, as well as normal, weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.


Compensation


Salary Range: $19-24 per hour


Pay is based on several factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
