Position Summary

Provides full-time, quality outpatient and inpatient occupational therapy care. May include some work at our local Long Term Care facility. Treats all patient age ranges and diagnoses within the State of Alaskas occupational therapy scope of practice. Includes home visits, village travel, and frequent collaboration with medical providers and requires strong didactic skills due to Alaskas Direct Access privilege for occupational therapy. Incorporates evidenced-based medicine into patient plans of care. Exemplifies professional conduct, patient care ethics and respect for cultural diversity when rendering patient care. Modifies patient care plans appropriately, using age-specific and patient-specific considerations. Supports the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporations mission statement&Working Together to Achieve Excellent Health.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy

Minimum Experience: No minimum clinical experience required but is preferred.

Licensing/Certification: Must be licensed in good standing in Alaska as an OT or have a good-standing license of Occupational Therapy in another state and awaiting licensure in Alaska. Must also hold a current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Current BLS.

Equipment/Tools

Office equipment (i.e. computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine)

Hospital based: Standard Occupational Therapy Department environment includes hi-lo table, therapeutic exercise equipment, ultrasound and electric stimulation modalities, ADL training room (includes bathroom and kitchen).

Village-based: Usually a treatment table is provided. Therapist brings out what is needed for patient care (theraband, exercise programs, etc.).

Specialized Knowledge And Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret occupational therapy periodicals and medical literature.

Ability to compose patient care documentation and medical correspondence.

Ability to communicate effectively with medical staff, peers and administrative personnel.

Ability to communicate effectively with members of a different culture who may or may not speak English.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Periodic self-assessment
