Responsible for controlling air traffic on and within the vicinity of the airport according to established procedures and policies in accordance with all applicable regulations and the policies and procedures established by the FAA and Jackson County Airport Authority.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain visual surveillance of the airport traffic and movement areas. Control air traffic and runway traffic on and within the vicinity of the airport. Train for the day-to-day operations of the Tower, as well as the planning, administration and equipment. Ensure that all publications, daily logs, flight progress strips, including traffic counts, are accurate and up today. Perform checks and monitor performance of all tower and FAA equipment. Alert Airport Director and other designated personnel by radio or telephone when aircrafts are having difficulties. Produce and retain daily logs and flight progress strips for future records. Investigate ATC system deviations and direct corrective actions. Attend all training meetings scheduled by the manager and maintain FAA certification. Perform safety inspections on tower facilities and equipment on a routine basis. Perform general housekeeping duties daily on tower facilities.
Experience and Education
Individual must have a High School Diploma or GED; FAA and /or Government Certificate. Individual must have a minimum of three years of air traffic control tower experience. Air traffic controllers must be able to speak clear and effective because they must communicate quickly and intelligibly to pilots. Individual must have a current Class II Medical Certificate.
