Aerospace Engineer, AST, Heat Transfer (Direct Hire)

Duties

Summary

You will serve on a team responsible for the design, analysis and test of spacecraft thermal protection systems (TPS). This is an opportunity to further develop capabilities to perform TPS analysis and system management related to a variety of Programs including Orion, Commercial Crew and Human Lander System (HLS). You will be responsible for working with system managers to ensure successful development and operation of Thermal Protection Systems.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Utilizing analytical tools for thermal modeling of spacecraft; Supporting the implementation of new capabilities or modifications of existing capabilities for spacecraft thermal systems; Supporting analysis, testing, or verification of spacecraft thermal protection systems to assist with resolving issues or ensuring compliance with requirements or standards. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Developing and utilizing analytical tools for thermal modeling of spacecraft; Providing technical inputs for the implementation of new capabilities and modifications of existing capabilities for spacecraft thermal systems; Performing analysis, testing, and verification of spacecraft thermal protection systems to resolve issues and ensure compliance with requirements or standards.
