Your Role: Adult Education ESL Instructor
As an Adult Education ESL Instructor, you'll play a pivotal role within our Academic/Vocational Services team, focusing on empowering English Language Learners in their journey to obtain GEDs. Working closely with our Adult Education Team, you'll provide personalized tutoring to students, utilizing a blend of one-on-one and small group sessions. Whether teaching in-person, remotely, or via hybrid methods, you'll tailor lessons to meet the diverse needs of our culturally varied student body, fostering growth in English language proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver ESL courses, employing engaging instructional techniques suitable for adult learners.
Develop customized curriculum to address the unique learning requirements of students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Employ a range of teaching methodologies to facilitate meaningful learning experiences and promote academic progress.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
Offer guidance and support to learners within our learning lab and online platform, fostering a supportive educational environment.
Proactively engage with students to provide encouragement and motivation throughout their educational journey.
Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to adult education, ensuring compliance at all times.
Collaborate with colleagues to enhance program resources and optimize learner success.
Assist with outreach efforts to attract and enroll English Language Learners into our programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
Fluent in Spanish.
Familiarity with literacy programs and the specific needs of adult learners.
Demonstrated ability to deliver effective literacy instruction in both one-on-one and small group settings.
Three years of classroom teaching or case management experience.
Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and online learning platforms.
Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, coupled with a commitment to confidentiality.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Preferred Experience
Experience teaching in alternative education settings or with at-risk populations.
Certification in secondary education.
Bachelor's Degree with a focus on Mathematics or Language Arts.
Project Management Skills And Experience With Assessment-based Student Work.
Familiarity with adult education principles and practices.
Proficiency in computer-based learning platforms.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
Work Environment
Primarily based at the Benton Harbor Service Center, with occasional travel to mobile site locations assigned by the Adult Education Manager.
