The primary purpose of an Admissions Counselor is to serve as the point of contact for prospective students and parents as assigned by the Enrollment leadership. The Admissions Counselor will provide information about the school, majors, and programs, and will counsel families through the admissions process. Essential responsibilities are conceptualizing and implementing strategic initiatives that are of critical importance to meeting the enrollment goals of the University by using independent decision-making skills to plan, organize, create, present, and market to prospective students and their parents at recruiting events, campus tours, visits to secondary schools and junior colleges, college fairs, and group and individual presentations. The Admissions Counselor helps gather application materials, essays, and interviews. The Admissions Counselor will also assist the graduate programs. Availability for flexible hours for Saturday tours and call center supervision are essential.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Conceptualizes, creates, plans, and implements strategic initiatives for admissions recruitment, counseling, outreach & application review that are critical to meeting the enrollment goals of the university
Represent AMU both on & off campus to prospective students, parents & secondary school stakeholders
Possible travel for recruitment purposes: high school visits and presentations, college fairs, etc.
Effectively disseminate information to a variety of audiences, including prospective students, parents and school officials through presentations or one on one counseling sessions.
Counsel prospective applicants on the Admissions process
Build and maintain positive relationships and manage on-going strategic communications with high school guidance counselors, administrators, faculty, and students by personal contact including e-mail, phone calls, text messages, print, & other media
Coordinate with the visit coordinator to recruit targeted prospective applicants
Assist in planning and implementation of on-campus recruitment events
Facilitate and supervise the Admissions Call Center as needed

EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in either or both a university Admissions department and/or Enrollment & Marketing department is preferred.

Knowledge of admissions information system or use of Slate CRM software preferred.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear in order to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors with minimal safety hazards, and requires seated, standing, and movement work.
Requires the willingness and ability to travel out of state within assigned territory during designated times of the academic year. To perform the essential function of driving during recruiting trips, must maintain a valid driver’s license and clear driving record to be insurable on the institutions rental car policy for required institutional travel.
