JOB SUMMARY:

The Lincoln University Department of Visual Art and seeks an Adjunct of Museum Studies to join the faculty in a time of focused effort to train more African Americans to enter museum professions.

The primary responsibility for this position is teaching MSM101-Introduction to the World of Museums. MSM101 is an entry level course with no prerequisites designed as a gateway course to promote an interest in Lincoln’s students to choose an educational path to a career in the broad museum world. This course has an interdisciplinary approach, so candidates must posess a broad understanding of the various museums types and have significant professional experience in the museum field.

A unique feature of the Museum Studies Program is our collaboration with the Barnes Foundation, a partnership combining the resources of both institutions to promote education and appreciation of the fine arts.

This is a part-time, non-tenured track position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • MSM 101 - Introduction to the World of Museum.
  • Recruit students to the Museum Studies major and minor.
  • Plan and implement field trips to regional museums.


EDUCATION:

  • M. A./Ph.D. in Museum Studies or related fields (such as Art History, History and Anthropology etc.). Background in African art and material culture a plus.


EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-8 years of experience in a museum related field.
  • Proven experience in integrating the museum experience into educational initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Communication skills consistent with effective teaching mentoring and motivating students from a broad range of cultural ethic and economic backgrounds.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including possible evening and weekend work. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
