Adjunct Faculty (SGS), Secondary and Higher Education (Higher Education and Student Affairs)

Salem State University is seeking adjunct professors with interest and experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online graduate-level courses within the higher education in student affairs (HESA) MEd program. Teaching assignments may include introduction to the student affairs profession, history of higher education, college student development, administration and organization in higher education, student affairs research, assessment and evaluation student affairs, helping skills, multicultural issues in student affairs, practicum, higher education law and risk management, higher education finance, and special topics seminars.


Duties may include development of syllabi and teaching aligned with established course objectives and 2015 ACPA/NASPA Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Educators; integration of multicultural and social justice perspectives into curriculum; meeting with students before and/or after class to support their learning; timely completion of assessment and feedback to students on their performance; consultation with Graduate Program Coordinator through periodic meetings; and working collaboratively with HESA faculty members. Courses are held at 7pm weekdays and from 9am - 4pm on some weekends. Summer courses may also be available.


This posting will be valid for three years to build a sufficient adjunct pool.


Required Qualifications


  • Earned doctorate or ABD from a regionally accredited institution in higher education, student affairs or a closely related discipline with application in postsecondary organizational contexts.


Preferred Qualifications


  • A demonstrated record of, or potential for, effective teaching at the graduate level in one or more of the following instructional formats face-to-face, hybrid, online.
  • Professional experience working in higher education administration/student affairs.
  • Experience in and commitment to teaching and mentoring in a multi-racial, multi-ethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Experience mentoring students to achieve career goals.
  • Active engagement and current membership with higher education/student affairs professional associations at the state, regional and/or national level.

  • Adjunct positions are temporary for one semester only, with a possibility for re-hire. All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. Adjunct positions are not eligible for H1B Visa sponsorship
