Position Overviews: San Francisco Bay University is seeking multiple, dynamic and dedicated adjunct faculty to support the design and delivery of innovative, new cornerstone courses in our General Education curriculum. Initially, courses include How to Design Your Life: A Journey Through Personal Epistemology . This course integrates the six vital SFBU student experience pillars of academics, career readiness, life literacy, wellness, financial support, and multiple meaningful relationships. The course explicates topics such as how to be a successful student in college, how to design your own wellness plans, how to prioritize and manage your time and finances, and how to seek out and nurture positive relationships in your life. The successful candidate will have experience in teaching, philosophy, coaching, and optimizing undergraduate academic performance.

We also seek accomplished English composition and rhetoric adjunct faculty to deliver How to Tell Your Story . SFBU has worked with subject matter experts to develop this newly conceived course that weaves together the art of writing with the principles of design thinking to explore the transformative power of story in both self-discovery and academic discourse. In this course, students explore the multifaceted process of writing, from the initial stages of brainstorming and outlining to the nuanced tasks of drafting, revising, and editing. Digital tools, including those powered by genAI, will be embraced with intentional use cases, allowing students to build marketable skills and develop, refine, and amplify their voice.

Responsibilities: Position 1: Working closely with the Provost and Chief Learning Officer, adjunct faculty are needed to deliver “How to Design Your Life.” Position 2: Working closely with the Provost, Chief Learning Officer and Subject Matter Expert, adjunct faculty are needed to teach, “How to Tell Your Story.”

Teaching Excellence: Possess deep subject knowledge, pedagogical expertise, and the ability to engage students actively while adapting to their diverse needs. We are looking for faculty with the skills and motivation to create a supportive and dynamic learning environment that emphasizes clear communication, collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.

Curriculum Development: Collaborate with colleagues on the development and refinement of the general education curriculum, incorporating the latest advancements in technology, ensuring alignment with disciplinary and community/industry needs and emerging trends, and leveraging best practices to position SFBU students for success throughout their academic and professional careers.

Inclusive Education: Implement innovative and inclusive teaching best practices that reflect our core value of providing access and inclusion to a diverse student body.

Quality Improvement: Active engagement in course and program-level assessment design, data collection, review, and reporting.

Professional Learning: Attend teacher training and professional learning activities offered by SFBU’s Center for Empowerment & Pedagogical Innovation (CEPI). Participate in student-centered formative and summative assessments of teaching performance. Remain current with emerging developments in general education, pedagogy, and related fields.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree required; Doctorate Preferred, as follows: How to Design Your Life faculty will hold advanced degrees in Philosophy, Educational Theory, Counseling Psychology, Education Psychology, Coaching, or closely related disciplines. How to Tell Your Story faculty will hold advanced degrees in English Composition and Rhetoric, English Literature, Communication, or closely related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in general education and a commitment to excellence in pedagogy.
  • A passion for mentoring and guiding students in their academic and professional growth.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and community partners.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in general education curriculum development.

Salary

SFBU compensation for 3-credit course delivery is $6,400/semester. Additional compensation for curriculum development and required pedagogical training is negotiable depending upon the scope of work.
