SUMMARY: Responsible for maintaining, organizing, and administering the overall program of 6-8 interscholastic and intramural activities in a way that serves all children well and supports the primary academic mission of the school district.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Organizes and schedules athletic events and intramural programs including the scheduling of facilities to meet the needs for interscholastic competition and practice of each athletic team.
  • Provides orientation and in service training for all coaching personnel and trainers.
  • Represents the district in the WIAA and the Badger Middle School Conference.
  • Assumes the general responsibility of the proper supervision of home athletic events including the hiring and scheduling of all game/meet officials, workers, timers/scorers, and security personnel.
  • Arranges transportation for athletic teams for interscholastic competition and practices.
  • Maintain records for each student athlete as required by the district and the WIAA.
  • Coordinates with coaching staff the equipment maintenance, storage, and upkeep, as well as equipment disbursement and collection.
  • Ensures fair and equitable enforcement of the Code of Conduct for students.
  • Works closely with middle school assistant principals to coordinate building and grounds needs for athletics and intramurals.
  • Provides scheduling coordination of building custodial and auxiliary services staff for athletic facilities used for practice and competition.
  • Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position supervises positions as assigned in accordance with the district policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree plus graduate level course work in school administration, business management, education, or related fields.

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before administration, students, staff, parents, school board, and community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school board policies. Ability to use computers and other technology to accomplish job responsibilities.

ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

TEMPERAMENTS: Ability to direct others, deal with people, and influence people in their opinions, attitudes, and judgments. Ability to perform a variety of duties. Ability to work with people who express conflicting opinions. Ability to solve problems, make judgments, and reach conclusions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; occasionally required to walk and stand; travel from building to other sites. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside, but must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee will frequently work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being and work output of students and coaches. The noise level in the environment can vary from quiet to loud depending on the activity in the particular part of the day.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES: Valid driver’s license required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Shall complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25.
