We are seeking an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative team environment. As a direct report to the Controller, the Accounting Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliant accounting operations within the Finance Department. This position is currently temporary with potential for permanent placement.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day, month-end, and year-end close processes including AR/AP, grant management, and account reconciliations.
Assist the Controller in annual external audit and tax engagements by preparing, compiling, and reviewing necessary documentation.
Compile financial statements and conduct monthly budget vs. actual analyses.
Monitor operating cash balances to ensure liquidity for short-term operational needs.
Provide oversight, coaching, and workflow management for a small team of accounting staff.
Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Evaluate existing systems and processes, proposing and implementing improvements to enhance productivity and alignment with best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent experience in nonprofit financial management.
Minimum of 5 years' professional experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
Proficiency in account reconciliation, journal entries, financial statement compilation, and financial reporting.
Previous Experience In Nonprofit Accounting, Finance, Or Audit Preferred.
Familiarity with Form 990 is advantageous.
CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
Essential Skills/Knowledge
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Strong knowledge of accounting software and financial analysis tools.
Expertise in internal controls, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
Track record of implementing process and system improvements to drive efficiency.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently.
Team player with a proactive, hands-on approach to achieving organizational goals.
