Position Title: Accounting Manager


A hands-on, resourceful, independent thinker in a visible accounting operations role with direct or shared responsibility for many aspects of Esperion’s accounting operations, including general ledger, SOX compliance, inventory, fixed assets, leases, taxes/licensing and the internal/external audit processes. The position reports to the Corporate Controller and works closely with various levels within the organization to drive financial reporting and execution to support Esperion’s growth.


The ideal candidate will have managed the complexities of detailed monthly accounting close on deadlines of a public company. Experience within biotech or pharma is a big plus, including competency in pharma revenues, inventory, gross-to- net, and related commercial related financial and accounting issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

  • Manage and supervise the month-end accounting close process in compliance with established reporting deadlines, including reviewing and approving substantially all of the monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and journal entries for the Company’s processes, specifically related to R&D manufacturing and clinical trials, inventory, commercial accruals, leases, cash and investments, other assets, collaboration revenue and miscellaneous accruals
  • Perform review of federal and state tax returns and manage estimated payments and compliance with tax partners
  • Participate in the preparation of financial statements and notes and various internal financial reporting monthly and quarterly flux analyses
  • Assist the Controller and SEC and Technical Accounting Manager in managing the Company’s SOX compliance and ensure the control environment is operating effectively. Responsible for internal controls related to the above processes and working with auditors.
  • Supervision, development, and review of the accounting team
  • Assist with quarter-end reviews and year-end audits, including internal controls testing (SOX 404)
  • Build relationships cross-functionally to foster collaboration with the major business units within Esperion.
  • Assist with the development, design and implementation of new internal processes and procedures required to support a commercial-stage Company, including ERP development
  • Assist in special projects as necessary.

Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 5 years of experience in public accounting or corporate/general accounting with 2 years of supervisory experience; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience within biotech or pharma preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements
  • Experience with SOX 404 and internal control over financial reporting
  • Focused and experienced in managing accounting processes and reporting deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth operating company
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize. Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
