Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Corporate Controller reporting directly to the CFO. The Corporate Controller will be responsible for managing financial operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis. The role also involves overseeing accounting processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing financial guidance to senior management. The Corporate Controller will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business growth and efficiency. This is a pivotal position that requires an entrepreneurial mindset and an individual who is excited about joining a company during its midsized growth phase.
Principle Job Responsibilities
Autonomously leads the preparation of journal entries, month-end accruals, bank deposits, inter-company transactions and other transactional based activities
Assist the Accounting team in the month-end financial closing & reporting processes by ensuring financial results are reported timely and accurately
Analyze key accounts for reasonableness and ensure proper financial controls are in place and mitigate control deficiencies as needed.
Develop, maintain, and strengthen systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure substantiating documentation will be following GAAP, federal and state obligations.
Drives accountability with business partners and Operations personnel to ensure that critical processes, procedures and controls are followed
Assists the CFO and executive management in preparing the annual budget and monthly forecast by incorporating key business strategies, return on capital investments and other KPI’s that drive operational performance.
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Participates and occasionally leads cross-functional project teams within a service-based setting
Continuously improve desk procedures and processes, including documentation, process mapping and efficiency improvements
Contributes to the larger team while working to achieve individual objectives
Maintains strong interactive relationships with Operations, Sales and corporate business partners by listening, clarifying and responding effectively.
Produces ad-hoc in-depth analyses as needed for review by management using enhanced data-driven insights that will influence overall business decision making.
Assists with external Auditor/accountant requests
Performs additional duties as assigned/necessary
Qualifications
BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Master's degree preferred, but not required
CPA certification is strongly preferred
Minimum 10+ years of demonstrated progressive accounting and financial management roles
Strong knowledge of financial management principles and practices
Experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
Attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation
Experience in the trucking or transportation industry is a plus
Experience with Karmak accounting software is desired, but not required
