TrueNorth's Employee Benefits division is looking for an Account Manager to join their team in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Account Manager will partner with our sales team to facilitate the day-to-day management of current clients’ Self-Funded insurance programs’ by proactively maintaining strong relationships with senior leadership including HR directors, executives and insurance companies.

The ideal candidate will have experience with self-funded medical plans and stop loss, with a focus on ancillary coverage, basic compliance requirements, and tax-advantaged account management (i.e. health reimbursement arrangement, flexible spending accounts, etc.). In this role, you will be responsible for marketing new and renewal business, preparing analysis of alternative benefit proposals, and processing enrollment paperwork. Other tasks include participating in client meetings, leading annual enrollment meetings for clients and maintaining insured info in our agency management system. The Account Manager is the primary contact for assigned clients and books of business.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Accurately manage client accounts and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Assist in marketing and placing new business and/or renewal business.
  • Prepare renewals of insurance.
  • Participate and lead client meetings, answering questions regarding their policies and/or services provided by TrueNorth.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with clients, both internal and external.
  • Meet with producer and service teams to ensure service levels are being met.
  • Communicate and partner with insurance companies to ensure we are meeting on the client expectations.
  • Seek opportunities and take steps to increase knowledge of industry, regulatory requirements, tools and resources available to assist clients.
  • Collect and report information and generate stewardship reports.
  • Answer questions from producer and the service teams regarding accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with clients, both internal and external.
  • Travel or visit insurance companies and/or clients, when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and company information.

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • College level business courses preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years' work experience in the health insurance industry required.
  • Life, Health & Accident license is required, or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment; maintain annually.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and able to quickly learn and utilize other computer applications.
  • Experience presenting in front of clients and partnering with producers preferred.
  • Customer service experience or support, preferably in insurance industry.

Skills & Competencies

  • A strong knowledge of the regulatory environment for employee benefits and experience in an employee benefit advisory agency/broker practice, carrier, or administrator market required.
  • Strong with excel and communication skills/presenting.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Strong and professional communication/presentation skills.
  • Extremely accurate and detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of insurance terms and documents.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret insurance data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Understand and maintain fiduciary responsibility for company, client, and producer.
