Employment Type: Seasonal (39 weeks); Part-time (19 hours per week); Non-exempt

Overview

The Academic Success Coordinator plays a vital role in overseeing our Academic Support volunteer program within select Marin County high schools. This position is responsible for identifying volunteer needs and opportunities in collaboration with schools, teachers, and administration. The coordinator will manage all aspects of the volunteer experience, including recruitment, screening, orientation, placement, support, evaluation, and problem-solving. This is a seasonal position that aligns with the regular school year.

Responsibilities

  • Screen, train, and match volunteers with appropriate placements, monitor their progress, and provide ongoing support as needed.
  • Conduct orientation sessions and ongoing training to ensure volunteers are well-prepared to support students effectively.
  • Collaborate with community partners, school administration, and staff to identify volunteer needs and opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Academic Success Team and other departments to ensure seamless program delivery.
  • Assist volunteers in providing college readiness programming and academic support, including 1:1 tutoring, college essay workshops, and in-class guidance.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities and volunteer hours.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of programming to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Address and resolve any issues that arise with volunteer placements or interactions.
  • Maintain positive and effective communication with volunteers, relaying important information, updates, training, and workshops.
  • Stay up-to-date with training and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with special events and newsletter creation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of public high schools in Marin County and an understanding of the diverse instructional needs of students and teachers.
  • Familiarity with standard high school courses and curriculum.
  • Experience with college essay preparation, the AVID program, and other college readiness planning.
  • Experience coordinating or working with volunteers.
  • Ability to be flexible and effectively problem-solve.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit, community-based organizations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including educators, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Strong presentation, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assess teacher requests, evaluate appropriateness, and match volunteers with suitable options, then track status and maintain records.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, act entrepreneurially, and take initiative both within a team and independently.
  • Experience with primary office software packages (Google Suite, Salesforce, Egnyte).
  • Willingness to be present in-person and travel within the regions served as needed.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Close-vision ability due to computer work.
  • Ability to engage in moderate, occasional lifting.
  • Reliable means of transportation to attend regular work and off-site business functions.
  • Successful candidates must pass a tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment screen and/or provide a clear tuberculosis (TB) test as part of the background check process.
