Academic Specialist, ELA / SOCIAL STUDIES

The District Academic Specialist is responsible for supporting and enhancing the academic programs across the district. This role involves working collaboratively with school leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders to implement effective instructional strategies, improve student outcomes, and ensure alignment with district and state standards. The specialist will focus on curriculum development, professional development, data analysis, and instructional coaching to inspire excellence and drive intentional, above-average academic performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development and Implementation:
    • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to design, develop, and refine district-wide curriculum.
    • Ensure curriculum aligns with state standards and district goals.
    • Support the integration of technology and innovative teaching practices into the curriculum.
  • Professional Development:
    • Plan and deliver professional development sessions for teachers and staff focused on effective instructional strategies.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and support to teachers to improve instructional practices.
    • Develop resources and materials to support teacher growth and development.
  • Data Analysis and Improvement Planning:
    • Analyze student performance data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
    • Collaborate with school leaders to develop and implement data-driven improvement plans.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of instructional programs and interventions.
  • Instructional Support:
    • Work with teachers to develop and implement effective lesson plans.
    • Provide feedback and support through classroom observations and coaching.
    • Facilitate professional learning communities to foster collaboration and sharing of best practices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and community members about academic programs and student progress.
    • Collaborate with other district specialists, administrators, and external partners to support academic initiatives.
    • Participate in district and school meetings, committees, and events.
Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Valid Teaching Certificate
    • Bachelor's Degree (Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
    • Experience in curriculum development and instructional coaching.
    • Proven track record of improving student outcomes.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of curriculum standards and instructional best practices.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
    • Proficient in data analysis and using data to inform instruction.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate teachers and students.
