Essential Duties Of The Academic/SEI Interventionist

  • Collaborate with school leaders, teachers, and Certified Coordinators in implementation of the school-based academic intervention model.
  • Design effective Tier 2 and 3 intervention lessons to accelerate student learning. Develop targeted ELD lesson plans driven by Arizona English Language Proficiency standards integrated into content area materials to provide instruction to increase English Language proficiency and academic success of ELs.
  • Provide direct instruction to English Leaders and students in need of Tier 3 and Tier 2 supports using evidence-based instructional techniques and best practices.
  • Provide professional development for certified and classified staff on intervention strategies and materials.
  • Support the school in the development and implementation of the 90-day action plan.
  • Coordinate instructional assistants for reading and/or math interventions.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement, language learning and curriculum goals.
  • Implement and track all Tier 3 support plans and progress for all identified students. Maintain and monitor compliance of state required paperwork for English Learners.
  • Use a variety of assessment measures to regularly progress monitor students receiving intervention support and English Learners. Provide progress reports as required.
  • Participate in the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process with the principal, support staff, parents, and instructional staff as requested.
  • Attend KSIT/RED/MET/IEP meetings involving students receiving intervention support or English Learners.
  • Prepare progress-monitoring data and participate in school professional learning communities.
  • Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers about alignment between classroom instruction and intervention.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of interim assessments. Ensure that appropriate testing accommodations for students receiving intervention support and English Learners are accessible for use on classroom, district, and state assessments.
  • Assist with administering AZELLA tests as needed for initial assessment and reassessment.
  • Build effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and be available to students and parents for education-related purposes, e.g., open house, conferences, extra-curricular activities.
  • Work flexible schedule for before or afterschool supports as needed.
  • Serve as a contributing member on assigned committees.
  • Participate in professional development and meetings with Certified Coordinators.
  • Serve as a liaison and have active involvement with professionals at the District and site levels.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above

Valid Arizona Teaching Certification and five years of teaching experience

SEI endorsement or certification in ESL or Bilingual Education

Knowledge and experience in implementing Response to Intervention and teaching English Learners

Knowledge and experience in the development and evaluation of academic interventions

Valid IVP Level One AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.

Master’s Degree in Education

Employment Information: 2024-25 school year; 20 hours per week, 216 days (212 days for continuing teachers); start date July 10, 2024 (new teachers)

Future Requirement for K-5: Literacy Endorsement (unless you hold a Reading K-8, Reading K-12 or Reading Specialist K-12 endorsement)

Timeline

  • Teachers who were certified on or before 8/1/2025 have until 8/1/2028 to obtain the literacy endorsement.
  • Teachers who certify after 8/1/2025 will have 3 years from certificate issuance to obtain the literacy endorsement.
  • Teachers who graduate from AZ colleges in 2025 should have completed the coursework and should have the certificate on their licenses.
