Role Summary:

IMA is seeking an Academic Research Fellow (ARF) to serve as the point person representing IMA’s research goals to the global academic research community. The ARF will be responsible for working closely with the academic community and accounting and related associations, IMA staff, and IMA volunteers to guide IMA’s academic research platform. The ARF will support and advise IMA staff on the advancement of IMA’s body of knowledge in current and future topics and practices impacting the profession, aligned with IMA’s vision and mission.


Responsibilities:

Serve as a key interface with academic associations such as the AAA, and its sections, to identify and support research on topics of importance to the profession.

Support the development of IMA’s, Statements of Management Accounting (SMAs) which are authoritative, expert-reviewed publications on best practices within management accounting.

Work with the IMA Research Foundation (IRF) and IMA Educational Case Journal (IECJ) to identify research and case study topics of interest. Advocate for submissions from the academic community.

Identify opportunities for collaborative partnerships to develop IMA joint research projects.

Work closely with faculty members, researchers, and industry professionals and inform IMA staff on the application of academic research on the practice of the profession leading to publishable research in IMA publications (e.g., IMA SMAs, IMA Research Reports, etc.) and/or in other high-quality reputable journals in the field of accounting and finance.

Present research findings at academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.


Qualifications:

Tenured or tenure-track professor with a Ph.D. in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

Serve as an IMA volunteer or a current IMA Academic member

Demonstrated track record of conducting high-quality research in accounting and finance and publishing research findings in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.

Strong analytical and quantitative skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Teaching experience in higher education, particularly in accounting and finance courses.

- Active participation in academic and professional networks.

This role will be overseen by the SVP Product & Innovation leader (as a business/strategic partner)

The Academic Research Fellow position is a part-time volunteer service leadership position. One or two-year terms available with the possibility for a mutually agreed upon single one-year renewal.

The ARF will receive a stipend and travel reimbursement.

The ARF is a remote work role and will require travel to participate in research related activities and to conferences at times that are mutually determined with the IMA SVP Product & Innovation leader.
