POSITION: Academic Recovery Coach

SALARY: $33.33-$37.84, per hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

LOCATION: Paschal Sherman Indian School

Basic Functions: The position will be responsible for the facilitation and management of Paschal Sherman Indian School Academic Recovery Center and re-entry services, building capacity and strategic plan for the Academic Recovery Center, and providing training for teachers and paraprofessionals in the area of differentiated instruction. The position will collaborate with the appropriate partners including Colville Confederated Tribes (CCT), Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), and the Omak School District. The successful candidate will be a team-oriented professional who is willing to learn and participate in a collaborative setting under the direction of the PSIS Superintendent and the CCT.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • Public education (PreK-12) experience required with experience in Special Education preferred.
  • Requires Washington State Teaching Certification or eligibility to gain certification
  • Requires First Aid and CPR certifications or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Requires all proof of degree/transcripts/certifications and THREE written letters of reference to be submitted with application.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Requires thorough knowledge of student information systems, master scheduling, and student program planning;
  • Ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form;
  • Requires experience developing curriculum and teaching
  • Requires experience working in Indigenous community in an educational capacity
  • Requires experience in using technology in the K – 8 classroom
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a diverse group of people, including students, parents, elders, teachers, administration, and staff in a fast-paced school environment
  • Requires ability to multi-task and be flexible with priorities
  • Requires strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
  • Requires ability to develop and implement a strategic plan as it relates to Academic Recovery in collaboration with the school’s Principal, and Cultural, Language, and Curriculum Teams;
  • Requires ability to support the PSIS mission, vision and core values, staff and student leadership development, as well as integration of indigenous curriculum;
  • Requires ability to assess progress of strategic plan implementation and program effectiveness;
  • Requires ability to work with Curriculum Coordinator to implement programs for Academic Recovery;
  • Requires ability to create student-friendly rubrics to assess progress;
  • Requires ability to network with entities such as Washington Virtual Academy to build capacity for high school programming partially online;
  • Requires ability to manage budget and communications, as they relate to the Academic Recovery program;
  • Requires ability to work with Jesuit Volunteers to coordinate student tutoring program, to address both academic and social/emotional needs;
  • Requires ability to collaborate with CCT Youth Development Program;
  • Requires ability to provide support to all teachers as they identify students and enroll students in the Academic Recovery Program;
  • Requires ability to support the After School tutoring program;
  • Requires ability to coordinate the staffing and delivery of services at the Academic Recovery Center to maximize access to instruction and assessment for students;
  • Requires ability to coordinate the implementation and management for the Academic Recovery Center programs and services;
  • Requires ability to track and analyze data to improve the impact of the program and services in meeting goals and benchmarks;

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
