The Position

We are currently seeking a competent Academic Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate is friendly, compassionate and self-motivated, with interest in education. The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for supervising students, developing curriculum material, and maintaining classroom tidiness.


This is a part-time position that starts at $18-20/hour and is 20 hours per week, with capacity for growth.


The Ideal Candidate

The candidate we are seeking is someone who enjoys working with children, is devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment, has excellent organizational skills, is able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and has a passion for helping students reach their academic goals. The candidate is bilingual in Spanish and English, has some experience working in education and leading groups of 10+ students at the middle or high school level, and is available to work from 3:30pm - 7pm Monday to Friday and 1-2 weekend days per month.


Role Summary

The Academic Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Academic Director to design and deliver an intensive academic program for 6th - 12th grade students that tangibly improves academic performance, closes academic gaps, and increases retention of knowledge.


Working closely with the Academic Director, the Academic Coordinator will assist in designing and implementing a high-quality, rigorous academic program which drives students towards long term success and prepares them to succeed in college and the world beyond. This includes, but is not limited to, academic intervention, college preparation work, summer programming, and weekend programming.


Role Detail

The Academic Coordinator roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Attend program 5 days per week during the school year 3:30 pm - 7 pm
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and parent/family conferences
  • Weekly lesson planning with the Academic Director
  • Document weekly and bi-weekly progress of students’ grades and intervention data
  • Provide and/or coordinate individual and small group tutoring
  • Assist students with special learning requirements, including disabilities or English as a second language students
  • Host Saturday program sessions 1-2x per month (totaling 4 hours) for additional interventions and testing such as the ACT, SAT, SSAT, and TSI.
  • Communicate important reminders and notifications to parents/students regarding upcoming academic events/requirements, grade failure notifications, tutoring session reminders
  • Collaborate with Academic Director to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions
  • Assist the Academic Director in coordinating enrichment activities such as field trips, community service outings, career exploration opportunities, program visits from professionals in the community
  • Assist the Academic Director in developing summer camp curriculum
  • Attend summer camp for one month as a staff member 7:45am - 12:15pm


Role Requirements

  • A minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Has earned or is currently earning a Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a teaching assistant or similar role is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of classroom activities, teaching methods, and best practices
  • Compassionate, patient, encouraging and a positive attitude
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
