Marlborough High School is developing a Restorative Center for students as an alternative to out-of-school suspension. This program aims to help students continue to make academic progress in their courses while being removed from their classes due to behavior. Additionally, students participate in restorative practices to repair relationships and harm done to the school community using restorative circles, PBIS, and community service activities.
Job Goal
To help students maintain academic progress in their classes and to help them process and restore relationships and a sense of community with the school.
Statement Of Duties
Develops and maintains a work tracking and academic data management system for students in the Restorative Center.
Runs daily community building opening and closing circles with students in the Restorative Center.
Proactively communicates with teacher colleagues and school administrators regarding the academic program, requirements, progress, and status of each student in the Restorative Center.
Creates and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and reflective practices.
Provides tutoring and guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
Assesses students' accomplishments daily and provides progress reports to admin and teachers at the end of the day.
Counsels with colleagues, students, and or parents regularly.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and or school committees.
Participate in staff development programs.
Qualifications
Current and Valid MA DESE license as a high school teacher preferred; ESL and Special Education experience preferred;
SEI Endorsement is preferred
Bilingual candidates (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred
Tier 1 - 3 Restorative Justice Trained preferred
Demonstrated interest in teaching students struggling with complex challenges
Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the work involved
Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
Bachelor’s Degree preferred; equivalent education and experience considered
Teaching and/or tutoring experience, especially with high-risk students, is preferred
Strong communication and organization skills
Must work well as a team member
