Job Summary
The Academic Advising Department of Jefferson Community and Technical College has an opening in Academic Advising. The primary responsibilities of this position include academic advising, making referrals to appropriate academic and support services, and engagement with college retention and success initiatives.
Job Duties
Other duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintain caseload of current & returning Jefferson students
Assist with General Education & Technical Program Advising
Work closely with other departments to develop processes for student outreach
Advising students at Jefferson (in-person and virtual), including first time freshman, first semester students as part of the FYE 105 (First Year Experience course), students whose majors are undecided, and for a variety of other degree programs
Degree Audits for student planning purposes
Degree Audits for Financial Aid purposes
Offering group advising sessions as needed
Utilizing retention management software for scheduling, adding advising notes, making appropriate referrals, and reporting
Participation in committees, work groups, and professional development activities
Assist with student check-in and triage of services at the Advising Center
Assist with the Advising Center email account.
May require travel to assist with advising on one of Jefferson’s extended campuses
May require some evening and/or weekend hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (Education, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field), and two years related experience, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should have experience in higher education, preferably at a community college, and should be flexible and have the ability to manage multiple tasks. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Candidates should also have experience and sensitivity working with students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
