Department Profile
The Department of Psychology is within the College of Arts & Sciences. It houses 20 tenure track faculty members, over 700 undergraduates, and about 40 doctoral students.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provides information to undergraduate and graduate students regarding degree requirements and advise appropriately with regard to academic deficiencies.
Provides information to undergraduate and graduate students regarding Mississippi Department of Education certification requirements and advise appropriately with regard to teacher licensure deficiencies.
Confers with faculty advisors and department heads relative to academic records, credits, policy and program requirements.
Evaluates transcripts from other educational institutions to determine which courses meet requirements for specific curricula.
Conducts registration for all first-time students. Requires full knowledge of admission process and academic program requirements.
Assists with orientation, preregistration, and registration procedures.
Answers email inquiries sent by prospective and new students.
Assists the adult learner/transfer students throughout the semester, not just at the beginning of the term, to aid in retention.
Compiles statistical data for various reports as requested.
Performs the most difficult assignments with judgment and discretion.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
One year of experience in academic records or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to communicate and relate to students and university personnel.
Knowledge of word processing and spread sheet programs.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills required.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work in normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
No or very limited physical effort required.
