9th Grade Head Baseball Coach

Position Title: Head Athletic Coach FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Athletics Reports to: Athletic Director Location: School Position Type: Full-Time Description of Position: Oversees the administration of the assigned athletic program which is composed of a number of students. Plan and manage competition strategies for both individuals and the team at sporting events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain knowledge of and adheres to all district policies, procedures, and expectations regarding athletic programs.

  • Evaluate if the assigned athletic program is responsive to student needs and meets district expectations.
  • Assume primary responsibility for student athletes during sporting events, practices, or other athletic program related activities.
  • Adhere to all financial policies of the district regarding the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
  • Ensure the rules and regulations regarding safety, conduct, and eligibility of athletic activities and student athletes are explained and adhered to.
  • Serve as a representative of the school district during sporting events, maintaining professional conduct at all times.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate certification and training hours as required, including all MHSAA requirements.
  • Work with the Athletic Director to schedule facilities for practices and competition.

Provide guidance and instruction to student athletes and assume responsibility for their safety during school sporting events.

  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior, during sporting events.
  • Provide proper supervision of student athletes during sporting events, practices, and/or other athletic program related activities.
  • Provide instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in the selected sport.
  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Travel with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
  • Enforce discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  • Assess player’s skills and assigns team positions.
  • Maintain a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.

Ensure academic, physical, and all other forms of eligibility are met and maintain appropriate records

  • Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cads, insurance records, equipment inventory and other required records.
  • Complete eligibility paperwork in a specified time and manner.
  • Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.

Facilities and sporting events

  • Coordinate with Athletic Director to ensure the proper setup of facilities for all sporting events.
  • Maintain knowledge of athletic field or gymnasium conditions and report any hazards or concerns to the Athletic Director.
  • Check and secure all offices, storage rooms, outside doors, and locker rooms after last player leaves games or practices.
  • Ensure all facility lights are turned off at the end of all sporting events.
  • Monitor and maintain sporting equipment and team uniforms.

Other

  • Provide leadership and guidance to Assistant Coach(es), and delegate tasks as needed.
  • Coordinates, plans, and/or participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate administrator.

Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • Minimum Class “A” Mississippi Teaching License
  • Required endorsement(s) to be “Highly Qualified”
  • Head coaching experience (preferred).
  • Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid Card, MS Class B Drivers License with Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsements, and coaching certificate through the National Federation of High Schools.
  • MHSAA required certificates.
