Ooltewah Middle School Is a 6-8 School Located In Ooltewah, TN, Just Outside Of Chattanooga. Teachers At Ooltewah Middle Can Expect a Supportive And Collaborative Climate, Including The Following Supports

  • New Teacher Academy led by our instructional coach, which meets monthly to discuss ideas and solutions
  • Mentor teacher for new teachers
  • Every teacher is a member of a grade level team, and each core teacher has a content partner that meets for collaborative planning weekly.

Ooltewah Middle School has a strong Fine Arts Program. We believe that students need to have multiple opportunities and outlets to express themselves in different ways.

We are looking for teaching candidates who are able to develop strong relationships with a diverse group of students, parents, and staff. This position may qualify for a Multi-Classroom Leader (MCL) opportunity.

The multi-classroom leader (MCL) leads a small team of teachers, paraprofessionals, and teaching residents in the same grade or subject to help the team meet desired school outcomes and build capacity among all team members. MCLs collaborate with the principal to establish each team member’s roles and goals each year, and co-plans, co-teaches, models, and provides feedback to the members of their team while also teaching students directly. The MCL guides the team in analyzing student learning data and identifying changes to instruction to ensure high-growth learning for every student, and ensures consistent opportunities for collaboration among team members. The MCL, along with their team members, are accountable for the learning and development of all students taught by the team.

MCLs are Instructional Coaches and must go through the same selection, development, and evaluation processes as other building-level Instructional Coaches.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning - Deeply understand the Tennessee State English Language Arts Standards and establish clear learning targets for every lesson. Build rigorous and aligned assessments and consistently implement high leverage literacy practices. Follow Hamilton County Schools’ instructional framework, including:

    • Building a Productive Classroom Culture
    • Responsive Teaching and Learning
  • Classroom Culture: Build a safe and productive classroom culture. Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning to unfold. Student and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset.
  • Family & Community: Consistently develop strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children. Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Actively participates in professional learning communities (PLCs) with colleagues in order to improve teaching and student learning. Reflect on instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
Qualifications

  • Open to being coached and receiving feedback in order to advance learning and growth for students
  • Professional with high personal standards and integrity
  • Teaching candidates must hold a valid state of Tennessee teaching certification in English/Language Arts 6-8, 6-12 English or be upcoming graduates in an accredited teacher preparation program. If you hold a teaching license in another state, you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license.
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree.

Compensation

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.

Salary Scale
