3rd Shift (10pm - 6 am) Converting Supervisor

Summary

Hood Container Houston has an exciting opportunity for a 2nd Shift Converting Supervisor. Incumbent will be responsible for the supervision of approximately 15– 25 full time converting employees in the daily routine of producing quality corrugated products in a safe, productive manner with minimum waste. Cross-train employees in key positions.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality, efficiency, and production levels set by management. Communicate these standards to your staff.
  • Must be well-versed with converting equipment. (Rotary Die Cutter, Flexo Folder Gluer, and Twin Box Slitter)
  • Report all quality concerns to the Converting and Plant Superintendent. Assist in determining quality guidelines.
  • Promote and establish high morale within your department by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems. Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain inventories of sheets, inks, and other converting supplies.
  • Coordinate with the Superintendent and Maintenance Manager on any repairs or preventive maintenance done in the department.
  • Keep key stakeholders informed of any issues or situations that may affect the performance of your department.
  • Enforce all corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with the violating employees.
  • Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety programs, and good housekeeping (Good Manufacturing Practices – GMP)
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises all employees assigned to the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's Guidance Principles, Policies, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conflict resolution; team building; coaching and leading employees to improve; addressing complaints/concerns and collaborating with local HR to resolve employee concerns; documentation; and setting an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5 years prior supervisory experience.
  • Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:
  • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to apply logical reasoning to manage problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: The individual must have a working knowledge of the following.

  • Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. This also supports the supervisor's role as a teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.
  • Cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisor find areas that require improvement.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all quality standards associated with converting.
  • Regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements, including OSHA, DEQ, and EEO.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
