Overview

Magnolia Public Schools (MPS) seeks a strategic leader to serve as its next Chief Schools Officer (CSO) who possesses an unshakable belief that every child can succeed and the leadership acumen to inspire and motivate school leaders and network colleagues to reach their highest potential. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CSO is a central member of the leadership team, responsible for managing and coaching the school principals, fostering a responsive and restorative school culture in every school, and improving and implementing MPS’ instructional model to drive student achievement. They will cultivate a culture of high expectations across the instructional staff to ensure that every MPS student has equitable access to high-quality and culturally relevant instruction.

The new CSO will have the opportunity to build on MPS’ strong foundation and core model to explore new imperatives to meet our mission, such as expanding the leadership capacity to address expansion and growth, developing leadership pipelines, creating systems for leadership evaluation and growth, and a path forward for the improved efficacy of all MPS schools. The CSO role is an ideal opportunity for a dynamic and visionary instructional leader to play a critical role in shaping a premier K-12 charter management organization committed to ensuring students have access to opportunities that will ensure their success in college and career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guiding MPS’ Instructional Model:
  • Collaborate with school principals and the executive team to support, and continuously improve MPS' educational model, STEAM Education, Early College Programs and Community Schools Model.
  • Drive alignment of school improvement strategy across principals, and network staff.
  • Drive the use of qualitative and quantitative data to identify the most significant short- and long-term opportunities and challenges facing the schools and the network, collaborating closely with the Chief Academic Officer and Chief Accountability Officer to ensure data tools support high-quality decision-making.
  • Develop a system to evaluate school instructional teams’ effectiveness to improve student outcomes.
  • Monitor and ensure systems, structures, and environments support the needs of diverse learners and the social-emotional learning (SEL) needs of students that result in growth towards organizational goals.
  • Leader of Leaders:
  • Function as a key member of MPS' executive team and collaborate with the larger MPS team in defining and shaping the direction of MPS.
  • Ensure the effective management, coaching, and mentorship of school leaders in ways that drive significant student achievement gains, and leadership development.
  • Lead the hiring, development, coaching, and evaluation of MPS principals in collaboration with the talent team.
  • Assume leadership development initiatives to identify and develop internal candidates for school leadership roles and facilitate the principal-in-residence program.
  • Collaborate with HR to design and implement leadership development programs and leader capacity-building initiatives.
  • Manage the schools instructional leadership teams to establish individual, team, and professional learning goals; evaluate and measure success for each direct report that leads to their continued growth.
  • Deploy Highest Leverage Action Steps to improve principal development effectiveness, aligning with the Leverage Leadership framework.
  • Achievement for All Students:
  • Oversee the evaluation and effectiveness of principals and instructional leadership teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Develop and implement targeted improvement plans for principals and instructional leadership teams based on evaluation outcomes.
  • Monitor and analyze student achievement data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement, collaborating with stakeholders to implement evidence-based interventions.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education
  • A minimum of seven years of professional experience with specific experience in school leadership, curriculum development, or program leadership
  • Results-oriented, determined, skilled leader with a strong track record of academic excellence
  • Demonstrated success leading school improvement initiatives that increase student achievement in a meaningful way for all racial, ethnic, and economic groups
  • Experience coaching, managing, and conducting professional development for principals and other educators
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a proven ability to meet and exceed ambitious goals
  • Proven capacity for leadership, including the ability to effectively assemble and motivate a team of experienced professionals to achieve ambitious and measurable results
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize data insights to drive high-impact action
  • Deep knowledge of school operations and leadership development
