Job Summary
This position is responsible for assisting with the district’s mission of providing for the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors. This position will perform/coordinate tasks related to staff training, security technology, campus security personnel, emergency preparedness, fire prevention, workplace safety and compliance with District safety and security policies and operating procedures.
Essential Duties And Respopnsibilities
Provide guidance and technical support to school administrators regarding the selection, training, deployment and duties of Campus Security personnel
Coordinate safety and security initiatives with the other departments in terms of security technology including alarms, video surveillance, panic buttons, emergency notification systems, door access control, door hardware, and visitor management.
Maintain a database of security/safety incidents utilizing identified metrics; perform trend analysis
Supervise Campus Security and District Security personnel.
Oversee and assess the performance of Campus Security and District Security staff, providing constructive feedback and implementing development plans to ensure continuous improvement and adherence to district standards.
Assume the responsibilities and duties of other managers and personnel during their absence, ensuring continuity of operations and maintaining safety standards across the district.
Provide training to staff in various programs, to include: First Aid/CPR/AED, Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), Active Shooter, Threat/Security Awareness Training and Emergency Preparedness Drills.
Work with the school administrators in the performance and documentation of drills
Work with school administrators and staff to ensure compliance with the procedures outlined in the District’s Emergency Operations Plan; perform duties as assigned within the Incident Command structure during emergency incidents
Assist in the assessment of school safety and security posture through Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and other audit programs
Respond to afterhours emergencies affecting the district
Assist in the investigation and resolution of security and safety incidents
Knowledge And Skills
Strong computer skills especially with Microsoft Office
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Knowledge of school based (K-12) security and crime prevention applications and principles; experience with CPTED preferred
Experience in the application of the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System protocols
Knowledge of basic OSHA requirements
Ability to maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with school and district, outside agencies (stakeholders) and the public, providing excellent customer service
Ability to maintain confidentiality, knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act provisions
Utilization of excellent interpersonal skills to interact in a professional manner with culturally diverse groups
Ability to work independently or as a member of a team
Knowledge and experience in practicing conflict resolution/verbal de-escalation skills
Designing and presentation of safety and security training programs
Minimum Qualifications
A 2-year (Associates) degree in a related discipline preferred or years of experience in public safety, security, emergency management or related field Experience preferred with managing security/safety programs in an educational setting. Experience developing, delivering training and professional development. Experience facilitating tabletop scenarios and emergency response training. equivalent experience
Experience in providing safety and security services in a K-12 school environment preferred
Completion of basic FEMA courses in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS)
Ability to obtain a First Aid/AED/CPR and CPI instructor certification within 6 months of employment
Other Requirements
Fingerprint and background clearance checks
Obtain and retain an Arizona Driver’s License
May be required to work outside normal working hours
May be required to travel to perform work functions
