Launched at COP27 with a host of Web3 companies and civil society leaders and the UNFCCC Climate Innovation Hub to announce the initiative. Founding members of the platform’s launch team a large number of firms. These include: AAVE, Art Blocks, Celo, CodeGreen.Org, Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, ERM, Filecoin Green, Gitcoin, Global Blockchain Business Council, Huobi Global, Laser Digital, Microsoft, Polygon, The Climate Collective, UPC Capital Ventures and W3bcloud, in collaboration with Gold Standard. Catalyzed by the historic transition from a reasonably heavy carbon footprint to one that is 99.5% lower overnight, the group seeks to mitigate the prior PoW footprint. The post-Merge operational footprint of Ethereum which runs PoS is vastly lower, so the group will initially focus on mitigating the PoW footprint. This work requires significant detailed attention to how PoW and PoS distributed systems consumer energy over large decentralized network infrastructure.
