“I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Bill Bass in a variety of capacities over the past six years. Bill's elite technology skills set him above many of his peers as a high school English teacher who embraced a paperless classroom. His leadership skills have found him roles in the Missouri Discovery Educator Network, Midwest Education Technology Conference, Educational Technology Association, and as a Google Certified Teacher. Bill has a strong desire to continue to teach and learn through his writings as a blogger, author and involvement in social media networks. His passion for celebrating students and learning is most notably recognized in the creation, management and organization of the Parkway Digital Film Festival. My experiences with Bill have been rewarding and collaborative. His hard work and devotion to the educational communities in the St. Louis area and beyond have proven him to be one of the most influential educators I know. It is an honor and privileged to recommend Bill Bass, a dedicated, focused professional who would bring a wealth of value to any organization.”

Leading from the Library : Help Your School Community Thrive in the Digital Age

The modern school library supports education in a variety of ways. One essential role librarians play is that of a leader who works collaboratively to build relationships, mold culture and climate, and advocate for the needs of students and the community.

One essential role librarians play is that of a leader who works collaboratively to build relationships, mold culture and climate, and advocate for the needs of students and the community.
In this book, a librarian and an education leader team up to reflect on the librarian’s ability to build connections in two ways. First, they discuss the benefits of bringing the outside world into the library through the use of social media, videoconferencing and other tools that allow librarians to partner with others. Then they expand upon these connections by addressing how librarians can lead in the greater educational community by sharing resources and strategies, and partnering with school leaders to tell the story of the school community.
Through this book, librarians will discover the influence they can have on the school community as the library becomes the heart of the school, a place where problems are solved, content is explored, connections are made and discovery happens.Other authorsSee publication -
Digital Reading: What Essential Grades 3-8
National Council of Teachers of English
Many of our young students come to school with vast experience in the digital world but too often use digital tools in limited ways because they view technology as merely another form of entertainment. Many of our young students come to school with vast experience in the digital world but too often use digital tools in limited ways because they view technology as merely another form of entertainment. Educators William L. Bass II and Franki Sibberson believe that teachers can help students recognize their expertise in out-of-school digital reading and extend it into the world of school. For this to happen, we need to redefine reading to include digital reading and texts, learn how to support digital reading in the classroom, and embed digital tools throughout the elementary and middle school curriculum.
Bass, a technology coordinator, and Sibberson, a third-grade teacher, invite us to consider what is essential in integrating technology into the classroom, focusing especially on authenticity, intentionality, and connectedness. They explore the experiences readers must have in order to navigate the digital texts they will encounter, as well as the kinds of lessons we must develop to enhance those experiences. Always advocating for sound literacy practice and drawing on the NCTE Policy Research Brief Reading Instruction for All Students, they lead from experience--both theirs and that of other classroom teachers, grades 3-8.Other authorsSee publication -
