🌟 A Shocking Reality Check on Obesity & Ozempic 🌍💊 Yesterday, we had an insightful lecture at Baptist Health South Florida as a part of Jose 'Pepe' Alvarez, MD annual lecture. Dr. Herbert Aronow's presentation on the current landscape of GLP-1 RAs was a true eye-opener. But what really stuck with me was the staggering price differences for Ozempic across the globe. I decided to do some digging into the data myself, and here's what I found: 📝 Countries with higher obesity rates seem to be paying a hefty premium for Ozempic. In the U.S., where obesity rates are the highest, we're shelling out a whopping $936 a month – almost 10x more than countries like the U.K. Why? It all boils down to supply and demand. Higher demand = higher prices. But there's hope on the horizon! The patent for Ozempic expires in 2031. However, until then, we could be stuck with these sky-high prices unless governments step in. The Future of GLP-1 Agonists 📈 The global market for these medications is expected to explode, reaching a staggering USD 133.35 billion by 2030! This means that addressing affordability and accessibility is more crucial than ever. Update: Thrilled to announce that I have received a diploma in Concepts and Tools of Epidemiology from the University of South Florida. I've developed a thorough grasp of the concepts and procedures necessary for identifying and managing illness patterns among populations after years of focused study and demanding coursework. Full-time faculty demand at large medical centers is getting pummeled. The Great Resignation is growing faster than ever in medicine. And I love it. Why? Because the doctors and nurses are tired. Tired of missing birthdays and little league games. Tired of quality metrics and increased workloads. Tired of staying late. Tired of being treated unfairly. Tired of poor leadership. So they are saying no to the old full-time model. And learning to take back their time... Being home for dinner. Working less. Sleeping in their own beds. Staying out of hospital politics. They're also spending more time with their family and friends. Realizing they can support themselves while working less. Armed with nothing but their own expertise and the confidence to try. And they won't be going back... Because they don't want to trade time for money. They just want the time that's theirs to begin with.

UF Health clinician-scientist Bently Doonan, M.D., was interviewed for an article in Florida Weekly that delves into the treatment and prevention of skin cancer.
