“I had the privilege of working with Tim developing numerous automated coffee systems at 7-Eleven. He is a natural leader, with high EQ and a penchant for entrepreneurial projects. People tend to listen and follow Tim's example and guidance and I always valued his input when we worked together. He is an expert in his field, able to relate to a variety of market problems and has the experience to back up his decisions. I valued his input on the projects we worked on and would gladly collaborate more projects in the future. He is also intellectually versatile. When a topic is unfamiliar or new concepts are put forward, Tim listens, learns and adjusts quickly, and is soon making a full and useful contribution to the department. I look forward to working with Tim again soon, and appreciate the time we worked together.”

How can you develop a prospecting mindset and skills for Account Management?
Connect others as often as possible in ways that benefit them - they’ll return the favor. Not only that, but the more you foster a mindset around helping others solve their problems, even when you’re not the one able to offer the solution, the more easily you will recognize the opportunities where you CAN provide the solution as well.

How does a business background help you succeed in product management?
In addition to understand various aspects of a business to understand how to successfully complete the tasks related to product management, a product manager must communicate their work clearly to all stakeholders. To communicate the pertinent information required by each stakeholder in a way that resonates with them and provides value, understanding their functions and department organizations is critical. Furthermore, a comprehensive feedback loop, incorporating information obtained from these cross-functional interactions, is key for refining the product management process, making better decisions, and incrementally improving in one’s role.

How does a business background help you succeed in product management?
The impacts of successful product management touch a myriad of aspects of a business that must be understood individually, as well as cohesively, to drive results. To properly position and product and understand the problems it can solve for their customers, and define a route to market, a product manager must understand the sales and marketing processes. To understand the real world implications of delivering and supporting a product, a product manager must understand operations and customer support. To make wise fiduciary decisions, make choices around features and options, and allocate resources, they must have a cursory understanding of finances. Much of the job is behind the scenes but, done right, drives real impact.
