About Compact Logix 1769-L33ERM controller The 1769-L33ERM is a CompactLogix controller form the 5370 L3 product category. Being part of the CompactLogix product family, the 1769-L33ERM feature a small-form factor hardware with expansion provisions. Additionally, this controller features integrated motion over Ethernet I/P feature. This controller is ideally used for small to mid-size control and automation requirements, popular with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) for use in the factory or process automation applications. The 1769-L33ERM has an embedded non-removable user Random Access Memory (RAM) amounts to 2MB and a non-volatile memory of 1GB that ships with the controller via the 1784-SD1. This non-volatile memory may be upgraded using the 1784-SD2 Secure Digital (SD) card which has 2GB user memory. Data exchange and communication with other PLCs / PACs, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) are enabled by the dual ethernet I/P ports installed to 1769-L33ERM. Additionally, it also has a USB communication interface for local communication. The USB port cannot be used for industrial data exchange. For interfacing with I/O devices, up to Sixteen (16) compact I/O modules may be installed to the local backplane of this controller, enabling local I/O expansion or installed and distributed to a maximum of Three (3) I/O banks. The 1769-L33ERM supports integrated motion over Ethernet I/P where up to Eight (8) motion axes may be configured. Programing languages supported by this controller include Relay ladder Logic (RLL), Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Sequential Function Chart (SFC). The 1769-L33ERM has a maximum surrounding air temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity is 5 to 95% noncondensing according to the IEC60068-2-30 specifications. The operation vibration of this module is 5 G at 10 to 500 MHz. The 1769-L33ERM’s operating shock is 20 G for a DIN rail and 30 G for a panel mount, while its nonoperating shock is 30 G for a DIN rail and 40 G for a panel mount. The 1769-L33ERM module has a radiated RF immunity of 10 V/m with 1 kHz sine-wave 80% AM from 80 to 2000 MHz. The Allen-Bradley 1769-L33ERM CompactLogix Controller can support 32 controller tasks at once. One controller task can run 100 supported programs. This module provides internal energy storage that eliminates the need for a battery and this module can perform different topologies like the Device Level Ring (DLR), Linear, and Star topologies. The Allen-Bradley 1769-L33ERM has a power supply distance rating of 4. This module has an embedded onboard user memory of 2 MB. This module has a 1784-SD1 Secure Digital (SD) card with 1 GB of memory storage. Excellent install this week for Russell Logic! This automation redesign of an existing line was a fun one. Separating an operation from the main line presented an excellent opportunity for some automation upgrades. We were able to utilize an existing DENSO VS-6556-W robot for an upgraded load robot from the old UR-10E, which enabled us to increase cycle times. Utilizing my simulation from WINCAPS III software allowed us to hit the ground running once power was on. We upgraded the Denso RC8A controller to Ethernet IP from its old discrete comms and created a custom, seamless AOI and UDTs for simplicity in the PLC commands to and from the Robot. This, plus endless IO back and forth really expanded our capabilities with this robot. (Denso AOI and UDT available upon request for MiniIO and Ethernet IP.) Safety was upgraded as well from some messy safety relays to a KEYENCE CORPORATION GC-1000 Safety PLC, utilizing the S1R relay output expansions to satisfy the Robot and our PowerFlex 525 VFD's. We did away with gates and utilized a Keyence SZ-01S area scanner (God I love the SZ's) for the Robot Area, which talked seamlessly to the GC-1000 over GC Link. Being separated from the main line, we ran a Rockwell Automation 5069-L330ERM PLC for this cell which allowed for some long overdue logic cleanup utilizing the standard Russell Logic PLC templates. Picking a non-ferritic plate with holes was a unique challenge and the customer worked with their COVAL.SAS rep to utilize their Lemax products. In the past I've used the Piab Group Kenos systems for challenging part handling, but I am very impressed with the Lemax product series! Russell Logic is ready for any challenge! Accounting for Component Overage in SMT Assembly Commissioning a PCB assembler to build your prototype boards is an efficient way to save time and money, as well as avoid frustration. However, it's crucial to take component overages into consideration to ensure your project is delivered on-time. This means you must purchase additional parts to account for any losses that occur, especially with smaller components such as 0603, 0402, and 0201-sized capacitors, resistors and inductors. PCB assemblers typically offer multiple types of services for assembling printed circuit boards. For instance, Advanced Assembly offers full turnkey, partial turnkey, and consignment services. If you opt for the full turnkey service, then Advanced Assembly will handle purchasing components, including part overages. Alternatively, if you select a consignment service, then you're agreeing to submit all the components yourself and take on the responsibility of providing enough extra parts. Why are extra components needed? Recall that surface-mount components are much smaller than their through-hole counterparts. For example, 0201-sized components, which are among the smallest, measure a mere 0.024 × 0.012 in. (0.6 × 0.3 mm); compared to a fingertip, they are practically invisible. Although surface-mount technology is very accurate, parts get lost during mount/dismount from the feeder. For this reason, it is important to familiarize yourself with the specific overage guidelines outlined by your assembly partner, which includes the recommended number of extra components and correct shipping package procedures. Please note, each assembler requires a different amount of overage depending on its equipment and/or capabilities.  Assemblers will typically request that parts are packaged in reels, tapes, tubes, or trays; again, this depends on individual contractors and the capabilities of their surface-mount pick-and-place machines. For example, Advanced Assembly accepts loose IC parts and passives in continuous cut tape instead of requiring customers to purchase entire part reels for low-volume orders.    Lastly, the best practice for shipping electrical parts is to use antistatic packaging to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from burning out the components. Also, it is a good practice to put your purchase order number in a visible location and provide special handling instructions if there are any (for example,” parts cannot be washed in an aqueous cleaner.”) All these details and more should be available on your assembler's website.  Taking the necessary steps to abide by overage guidelines and packaging requirements will ensure that your quick-turn PCB assembly order is completed in the shortest time possible and with the highest quality.
