Newsom didn't include ➡️$$ to safeguard #HealthCare coverage for young children ➡️thriving wages for community health workers ➡️reliable internet access for families These would build #HealthEquity for historically marginalized communities of color. California has the resources to create #HealthEquity for children & families – now we need the courage. NEW: Survey results reveal that 72% of voters support #CALeg reforming the Private Attorneys General Act. Voters across the political spectrum support empowering state regulators vs. the current lawsuit-first system. #FixPAGA https://bit.ly/4c4ARwt   Voters were initially asked if they would support legislation modeled after the provisions of the PAGA initiative, which is currently eligible for November 2024 ballot. The proposal is supported by 72% of voters, including: 84% of Democrats, 64% of independent voters and 56% of Republicans.   After a simulated campaign, with voters hearing equal support and opposition arguments, 64% of voters continue to support the proposal. It’s long past time for #CALeg to act and create a better, fairer system for workers, small businesses and non-profits. #FixPAGA

Exciting news from the team at CPUC Communications Division! Today, staff issued the first in a series of recommendations for grant awards from the Last Mile Federal Funding Account (FFA) program. This program is part of a historic investment in digital equity envisioned by the Administration of Governor Newsom and the California Legislature under Senate Bill 156 (Budget Act of 2021). The $2 billion FFA program aims to connect communities to digital education, employment, and health services through the deployment of reliable fiber broadband infrastructure. Last year, the program received 484 applications totaling over $4.6 billion in grants from local governments, ISPs, Tribal Nations, and non-profits. The first two resolutions released today recommend projects for award in 6 counties, totaling over $88 million. Additionally, CPUC will award 3 projects via staff delegated authority for an extra $16 million. The foundation for this achievement was laid with 109 grants for technical assistance, totaling $50 million, provided to communities across the state by CPUC. Moving forward, recommendations for awards will be released on a rolling basis into the Fall. A vote of the Commission is required to approve award recommendations. A big shoutout to the team for their dedication in developing and launching this significant program. This move comes as part of a sprawling class action over the number of mental health professionals in California prisons. Wow – this is amazing. A huge win for young people in foster care in California. This legislation will provide youth in foster care with access to extracurricular and enrichment activities, intensive home-based therapy services, and wrap-around supports AND allow them to access these opportunities while at home with relatives and foster parents in their own communities vs. the current reality where these opportunities are only available in institutional settings or group homes. Too often programming that supports youth in foster care is focused on avoiding negative outcomes – don’t get pregnant, don’t do drugs, don’t go to jail, don’t end up homeless. What an uninspiring and demoralizing way to envision and approach your future. With this approach to funding, kids can stay with their relatives and foster parents, receive the therapeutic and mental health support and healing they need, and have opportunities to explore, dream, build relationships, get creative, be active, build self-confidence, and build community – all the experiences that help young people define their identity, passions, purpose and help them build the skills they need on their path to adulthood. So much gratitude to the California lawmakers who approved this plan and to organizations like Youth Law Center and youth-led California Youth Connection for years of advocacy on this issue.
