Blaine Bartlett and I had a far ranging discussion on not only Restore Hyper Wellness and Dreamit Ventures but my favorite part is the discussion of how a business must fit into its community. What I referred to as collective self interest in my first book "We Are Born Entrepreneurs.", Blaine is calling compassionate capitalism and it was so fun to see how we both came to a similar conclusion of how business fits into society coming from completely different directions. Stop the taxation in CA.... Potential legislation that threatens flooring businesses and harms the future of our industry in California. AB 863 is proposed to be drastically amended to replace the current successful carpet recycling program, California Carpet Stewardship Program, with a more costly and untested model, and expands its reach into other flooring categories. Key concerns with AB 863 proposed amendments include: Retailers and customers will face significant increases in flooring costs by hiding the current carpet fee and adding new collection sites and recycling rates. The fastest growing flooring category, luxury vinyl tile, is targeted in this bill, making one of the most in-demand products more expensive for you and your customers. What’s more, the bill will harm more than a decade of recycling progress led by the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) Program. CARE has successfully met and exceeded the California state goals while: Achieving an increased recycling rate from 4.4% in 2012 to 35.1% in 2023, far surpassing the 31 percent goal set in the Program’s Five-Year Plan. Expanding drop-off sites, with 135 public operations sites and over 200 private sites across 50 California counties by the end of 2022. Decreasing carpet in landfills from 3% to 1%. Collecting over 1 billion pounds of carpet.   AB 863 is terrible for flooring businesses in California, but it’s not too late to act before it is voted on by the Environmental Quality Committee on June 19, 2024.
