AGE IS JUST A NUMBER!...The latest 'Team XND Hyrox Training camp' was unique, the average age of the athlets was 55+, each and every one of them is super competitive, fit, healthy and storming into later life with a purpose. We are not exclusive, we do have a raft of younger athletes who could not join us this time, mainly down to child care or work commitments. You can watch us in action here: https://lnkd.in/ecaxnMS6 Most of the team are heading to Nice in June, not to stroll up and down the 'Promenade des Anglais' eating ice creams, but to smash it up at the ‘Hyrox World Championships’, now widely known as the ‘The World Series of Fitness Racing’. None of the elder statesmen and women in the team are sloping off into old age gracefully, our talk was more on heart rate monitors, personal bests, sled push technique and supplements, rather than comfy arm chairs, slippers and retirement homes. DID YOU KNOW: The average life expectancy is now 79, with most of us expecting to live to 80 or 90 or beyond. They are re-inventing themselves and working out who they could be in the rest of their lives. Maturity is no longer just a stage of winding down and waiting for the inevitable to happen, we cannot deny old age is a natural physiological process which we cannot prevent, but it is not just how do you increase your ‘Lifespan’ but what does your ‘Healthspan’ look like? File this under "Failing Fast". Golf is said to be "a game of misses." In product management, we fail more than we succeed—it's just the nature of learning. And we want to learn fast and cheap. In golf, everything is hyper-accelerated. We are best served doing retrospectives in seconds or minutes, instead of hours or days or weeks. Decide what we've learned, what to practice in the future for similar situations, assess our current situation, and then crack on fresh. Leave the emotion and ego behind. It is easier to say than do in either the golf or product management context. Thus, the "always better, never best" mindset. The "fairway bunker" miss is often dreaded in golf. For soooo many reasons, most of which relate to "lost opportunity". I almost look forward to them. Almost. 😅 It doesn't always work out... and yet leaning into it as an opportunity versus a curse is no doubt an optimal mindset. Just like #fails in product development! 😎

Impact Sports is working to protect youth athletes from concussion and traumatic brain injury. Weve designed and tested tackle as well as soft shell helmets that outperform top selling helmets on the market. Our technology is patented and performs unlike any helmet on the market. With "off the shelf" materials, we were able to outperform the VICIS zero one in FE Testing. VICIS blew through tens of millions of dollars to get to that point. We did it in 3 years and spent $250,000. With that said, raising money to move forward has been tough. We'd love to hear your suggestions/referrals for anybody interested in joining us as we work to better protect athletes. *****This is one test, at 18 ft/sec. The lower the SI, or severity Index, the better. Max "passing" score is 1200 (very poor score). This would qualify us for a 5 star helmet.....and we didn't test our "game ready" materials!

Some really interesting research here from PARITY | A Group 1001 Company. Not so much for telling us things we didn’t know or suspect but for putting the weight of careful research behind it. A lot to digest in this, and very useful if you’re looking for regional data. Those of you toiling at the coal face of women’s sport will not be surprised by most of the data here - but then I don’t think Parity want to preach to the choir. So hopefully some of you out there, especially brands and agencies will look at this data carefully and make some smart decisions! As a follow up to my review of the Nike Zoom Maxfly sprint spikes, I discuss the replacement of the original spikes with a brand new pair. We discovered that the original pair was exceptionally more compliant than the new pair, particularly on the left foot. Not surprisingly, my son has had some soft-tissue issues on the left side in the distal hamstring tendon where it intersects with the calf muscles. Because of the significant differences in shoe stiffness, we devised a progressive plan to re-introduce a new pair of the shoes. Since he is training for and competing in the 100m and 200m sprint events, we thought it best to do a gradual re-introduction of the new shoes over a number of workouts, gradually building up total sprint volume in them and prioritizing upright sprint reps over starts and acceleration, at least for a few training sessions. This highlights the need to consider the 'impact' of changes in footwear, particularly for track spikes, football and soccer cleats and other shoes that tend to be on the stiffer side. I have also heeded the same concern when working with shoe drop -- transitioning from a greater drop to a zero drop shoe. The repetitive nature of running can have significant cumulative affects on soft-tissues and joints.
