Lyric McHenry fellows work with an arts organization or a community-based organization using the arts to further racial/social justice. With the help of IDA staff, CAF Fellows will determine a course of research and preparation for their summer learning experience.

The selective Lyric McHenry Community Arts Fellowship supports 3-4 students each year to complete a summer internship with an arts organization that furthers racial and/or social justice.

Applicants must propose their own placements with organizations with whom they have corresponded before the application deadline, and effectively demonstrate that their intended partner is a well-run organization where they will receive adequate guidance and supervision. Fellows assist in building and maintaining relationships with these arts organizations and the communities in which they are based. Show less

- "The Princeton Summer Journalism Program (PSJP) is one of the only programs of its kind offering a free, innovative residential journalism and college prep institute for high achieving high school juniors from low-income backgrounds. Over ten days every summer, up to 40 students from across the country explore current events and world affairs through workshops and lectures led by Princeton professors, professional journalists, and alumni on campus. The summer program culminates in the publication of the Princeton Summer Journal, the student-produced newspaper."
- Wrote and published multiple articles, both solo and in group collaboration, for the Princeton Summer Journalism Program publication - on both digital and physical mediums.
- Worked 9+ hours a day writing, editing, and interviewing alongside journalists of multiple publications (CNN, Sports Illustrated, Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Princeton University, etc.). Consulted with journalists themselves at the headquarters of said publications, as well at NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NYC.
- Conducted on-the-street interviews and investigative undercover journalism in and around Trenton, NJ, Newark, NJ, Princeton, NJ, and Battery Park City, NY on political stance and personal opinion in regards to Bill de Blasio, etc.
- Participated in mock trials and mock juries to gain both experience and understanding of the United States political system, as well as knowledge on the cases that surround modern day media and news.
- Worked closely in group settings, as well as individually, to design articles and collaborate on projects in both digital and physical senses. Ensured work completed in any and all settings was done efficiently and with extreme care, whilst promoting team building efforts and strategies to encourage bonding. Show less
