How can you retain top talent during times of change?
In numerous experiences leading change, I have found that there are three things that are most helpful and effective: 1) Becoming very clear, very quickly on how, as I leader, I am responding to change, and most specifically, how I am pausing to acknowledge, understand and then manage my own emotions. 2) Become very clear, very quickly, on the emotions that I would like those around me to experience as I communicate and role model the changes, and 3) keep multiple communication channels open to team members to enable them to process and understand their own emotions in light of the change. That way, top talent acknowledges and learns that emotions are a critical component to making sense and meaning of change.
