It's that time once more! We're embarking on a journey to Rwanda and Uganda to connect with as many members of the Village Savings and Loans groups as we can. Our purpose is to directly hear from those we serve about how this program is impacting their annual income. We're also interested in identifying any challenges hindering their progress. By working together in real-time, we can find solutions to overcome any obstacles. Please join us at this Pre-Conference event whereby I will represent Community Based Organisations (CBOs) Coalition Malawi as one of the Panelist. The Pre-Conference, titled "Shifting Power and Advancing Equity in African Population Research and Collaborations," aims to examine the power dynamics that exist in demographic research collaborations in the African context and explore strategies to foster more equitable and inclusive practices. Bridging the gap between research findings and practical implementation remains a challenge. There is a need to involve communities in research design, implementation, and evaluation. This can ensure relevance and responsiveness to local needs. Researchers, policymakers, communities and practitioners must collaborate effectively to translate research into real-world impact. By fostering collaboration, transparency, and equitable access, we can enhance the relationship between research and societal well-being. Community-based organisations can play a crucial role in shaping national research agendas and promoting the wellbeing of populations. CBOs/CSOs involvement in setting research agendas can ensure that research priorities align with societal needs, promote transparency, and contribute to the overall wellbeing of populations. CBOs/CSOs can contribute by providing insights, advocating for specific research priorities, and ensuring that societal needs are considered. A sound policy on the care economy needs to consider five elements (or the 5Rs). These are: - Recognizing the contribution of care work, - Reduce amount of work, - Redistribute care work among men and women, boys and girls, - Reward, provide reasonable financial compensation, and - Representation of care workers.

Outsourcing Creative Work to Uganda: Risk or Reward? Our good friend and client, Andrew DeVaney from AsOne Ministries, shares his experience of moving all AsOne Creative work to era92 Creative Uganda. 🌍 Honoured to have interacted with World Food Programme's Executive Director, Cindy McCain, during her official visit to Zambia. In light of the increasing frequency and intensity of climate shocks, such as the recent drought that affected nearly 10 million people in Zambia, the collaboration between the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the WFP is more critical than ever. Following the signing of a joint global action plan in March 2024, IFAD and WFP are working together to support countries facing fragile contexts, economic shocks, and extreme weather. This partnership aims to leverage the strengths and expertise of both organizations to enhance resilience in vulnerable environments and improve food security for those who need it most. In Zambia, IFAD and WFP have collaborated on the design and rollout of a livestock weather index insurance, increasing access to insurance for 5,000 farmers under the IFAD-funded Enhanced Smallholder Livestock Investment Programme (E-SLIP). IFAD's operations in Zambia focus on resilience building in areas such as livestock, financial inclusion, and value chain financing. #ClimateResilience #FoodSecurity #Zambia #IFAD #WFP #SustainableAgriculture #DroughtResponse #ResilienceBuilding #FinancialInclusion #LivestockInsurance #EconomicDevelopment

Willgive Hearts Africa Foundation Uganda, is a dedicated organization committed to transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Uganda. At the heart of our mission is a profound belief in the power of education, particularly for a girl child. Educating a girl child is not just an act of empowerment but a strategic investment in the future of our communities. It is said, “When you educate a girl, you educate a nation,” and this is the ethos that drives our efforts. Why Educate a Girl Child? 👉Breaking the Cycle of Poverty: Education equips girls with the knowledge and skills to secure better job opportunities, raising them and their families out of poverty. Healthier Families: Educated girls are more likely to make informed health choices, leading to healthier families and reduced child mortality rates. 👉Community Development: When girls are educated, they become catalysts for positive change, contributing to economic growth and community development. Willgive Hearts Africa Foundation’s Role As a legitimate and compassionate organization, we strive to: 🌟Provide access to quality education for girl children, especially those who are orphans, HIV-positive, or abandoned. 🌟Create a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn and grow without fear. Foster community engagement to support and encourage the education of every girl child. The Impact of Your Support Your support can help us: Build and maintain educational facilities tailored to the needs of girl children. Supply essential learning materials and resources. Offer scholarships and financial aid to ensure uninterrupted education. ✍️Conclusion “Train up a child in the way she should go, and when she is old, she will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6. By supporting the education of a girl child, you are not just shaping an individual life but molding a community’s future. #donate a pair of sanitary pads 👇 https://lnkd.in/d6NSph-p #visitourhomeofhope #girlsgeneration #girleducation

At White Ribbon Alliance Kenya, we challenge the tendency to silo #women's needs and desires. Our approach is rooted in #active listening and genuine understanding, ensuring our actions are based on women's actual requests rather than decisions made in isolation from their realities. Last week, I led a listening session in Olorika, Oloitoktok, a remote village in Kajiado County in line with our #Ask , #Listen and #Act approach. This was in partnership with our Kajiado County #ActionNetwork teams. We engaged with women from three organized community groups, all dedicated to #selfempowerment. Our approach is to walk with women, meeting them where they are, offering them a 'handshake' , supporting #sustainablesolutions NOT a handout,' for the latter is not sustainable. We are supporting women and girls who have already demonstrated a commitment to their own journey of #economicgrowth. These groups have shown remarkable initiative, collectively raising livestock (goats and chickens) and attempting farming, though the latter faced challenges due to harsh #climatic conditions. Our goal is to nurture these groups' growth, facilitate their #economicempowerment, and witness the power that comes with #financialindependence, true #economicpower! We recognize that #economicempowerment is not just about income, but about giving women the tools to shape their own #futures and that of their #families and #communities. When #women thrive, their #health and #wellbeing, that of their #children, families and communities thrives too. #WhatWomenWant #Selforganizing #selfdetermination Florence Syevuo SDGs Kenya Forum ForumCiv Titus Kuria Eve Merin

Why Museveni decries Bujagali Bujagali was $0.138/kWh. It's down to $0.083/kWh. That's still expensive. Museveni decries the project. But we have a deeper challenge with infrastructure: We underestimate the thrust of technology both in the delivery and management control of infrastructure. So, be surgical in investment. Avoid 'constipation'. That's Museveni's language. #infrastructure #africa #sustainability #complexity https://lnkd.in/e283w3Mm

I was invited by Prof Bheki Moyo who leads the Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment - CAPSI to share some of my thoughts on why (South) African #philanthropy needs to mainstream #climatechange into their impact strategies, and how they can do so while deepening (rather than changing) their priorities. Our biggest climate risks are not just about the weather "out there," but about material challenges like food security, health and education outcomes, economic security and sustainability, mobility and migration, good governance and accountability...you get my point...
