Edmund Burke once said, 'The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.' I think we can reiterate this quote and credit the men, women, and children of Kentucky for having rallied for this incredible law. It's truly an important film.  This film has a proper beginning, middle, and end. It paces well. But more than the story structure, I'd like to take a moment to praise the thematic structure of the film. The film begins with Ethan being abused by his owner before being abandoned by Daniel and Andrea, who is also a victim of abuse. This could've turned Ethan into a bitter dog who is mistrusting of humans. But he chose love and compassion over bitterness and anger. The message is clear and subtle. The themes never hit us in the face. Jeff's conversations with Ethan are particularly poignant, capturing the profound bond between a man and his dog. These dialogues are filled with heartfelt expressions of care and empathy. I can tell that this film is written by a dog lover(s). The dialogues are exceptionally well-crafted, showcasing a perfect blend of emotional depth and authenticity. Each character's voice is distinct, reflecting their unique personalities and backgrounds. Since this film is based on an incredible true story, it already has a great marketing peg. This film strikes the perfect balance between festival and commercial cinema. What's striking beautiful about the way it has been written is that it's educational but in a way that is not preachy at all. These are the kind of endings that linger on our minds long after the film is over. I hope that this film premiers in a top-tier festival and finds worldwide distribution. It deserves to be seen by a global audience. All the best." This means using the same software, hardware, and techniques the big-name studios use when they work on video games, commercials, and others. [A HOLLYWOOD STAR WHO DELIVERED PIZZA WITH HIS RESUME INSIDE] Rami Malek is an extraordinary actor. I recommend the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, which won him an Oscar for Best Actor, and if you're a bit of a nerd, also check out the TV series Mr. Robot. The interesting story is about how Rami managed to break into the Hollywood star system. Rami said that when he was a delivery guy, he used to stick his photo and resume inside the pizza boxes. His dream was to become an actor and for several years he used this strategy to get noticed until a movie producer called him into his office and he got his first acting job within a few days. It's such a simple idea (you don't need to be very creative to stick a CV on top of a pizza box) but very effective. If you're trying to land the job of your dreams, like Rami wanted to be an actor, I hope you can take inspiration from this story. Even a simple idea, repeated frequently, can increase the chances of achieving your goal. 🎧 Mixing vs. Editing: Know the Difference and Get Paid for Your Work 🎧 I came across a great point on Twitter/X that really resonated with me: Mixing is 80% editing. And honestly, it’s true. A lot of what happens in the editing process can significantly enhance the mix. But here’s the kicker—if you’re hired to mix and find yourself doing extensive editing, send it back to the client. Mixing and editing are two separate tasks, and they should be priced accordingly. Mixing isn’t about doing massive drum edits, comping vocals, or tuning. That’s editing. And if you’re going to do that kind of work, make sure you’re getting paid for it. Why film in Colorado? ⛰ Colorado recently passed House Bill 1358 which expands the tax incentive program for film, TV and commercial productions shooting in Colorado. The bill allocates $5 million per year over the next four years to productions filming in Colorado. HB 1358 also establishes payments to personal service corporations as qualified local expenditures. Other program highlights are: 💠 Up to a 20% refundable tax credit on qualified expenses 💠 2% uplift available when shooting in enhanced counties  💠 Required minimum spend of $100K for CO production companies 💠 Required minimum spend of $1M for non-CO production companies  💠 CPA audit required 💠 Screen credit required  💠 To apply, production must show proof of financing Legislators expect the expanded tax incentive to be a huge financial boon for local businesses,  especially with additional incentives for productions that use local infrastructure, and film in rural regions or marginalized urban areas. Indie TV: The New Wild West of Television Production 🎬🤠 🚀 Launchpad Alert: Shane Gillis and the Duplass Brothers are cooking up their own shows—and no, they’re not asking for Netflix’s allowance money to do it. Here’s the skinny on indie TV: Creators are taking the wheel (and the financial risk) by funding their own series. They're not just creating content; they're controlling their destinies—and maybe even padding their wallets if they play their cards right. Shane Gillis Goes Full Throttle: Remember Shane? The guy who got fired from SNL on his day off? Well, he’s swapped sketches for tires—literally. His sitcom, #Tires, set in a tire shop (because where else?), began as a #YouTube pilot. Fast forward, and #Netflix is now streaming the full season he bankrolled himself. Talk about a plot twist back into the mainstream! Duplass Bros’ DIY Network: Mark and Jay used to call up streamers who would then beg to fund their shows. However, times have changed. But Mark and Jay Duplass aren’t just sitting around waiting for someone to green-light them. They're using paychecks from past gigs (thanks, #AppleTV+) to fund shows like #Penelope. Netflix snagged it, but only after the brothers proved they could do it without a big studio puppeteering their creative/purse strings. #Pros: Creative freedom, potential big bucks if you can sell it, and a huge boost for the #CreatorEconomy, as evidenced by Mr. Beasts' deal with Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios. #Cons: If it flops, you’re the one calling your accountant to break the bad news. Plus, your production value may not be what you envisioned. There's a reason studios were invented—much like venture capital, the volatility of TV success is best capitalized on by making dozens of bets, not just one. And Here’s Where You Can Curb Your Enthusiasm: As NFLX sniffs around sports with deals like $75 million per NFL game (https://lnkd.in/gc_ZBfdB) and keeps its wallet open for other potentially profitable ventures, indie TV creators need to watch their backs. Netflix and other streamers want Hollywood to accept being paid based on performance. If they're successful, they could lower their costs and increase ROI, making the need for indieTV projects smaller. What’s the Future Hold? Indie TV could be the golden ticket for creatives tired of playing by outdated rules. Or it could be a tough lesson in Economics 101.
