Here's how you can overcome common challenges when seeking feedback from target audiences.
The place to start is always by putting yourself in the mind of the customer. What is in it for them in terms of providing feedback? Incentives matter little when our most precious asset, time, is stretched to the limit and it's often much easier to simply pass. It's also important to remember that often the only time customers are inspired to provide feedback is when they are unhappy and want to vent about that. For me, the most compelling invitation to provide feedback is almost always about doing good for a community at large and/or when making time to respond gives me something of value (like survey data so that I can see where others land on similar topics). That's infinitely more compelling than a SBUX gift card.

How do you lead with creativity and discipline?
I love to foster a sense of creativity and think it's incredibly important. One thing I think is a valuable exercise is a weekly, or biweekly team meeting where you just throw ideas out - and there are no bad ideas, no judgment, just brainstorming as a team. When you add to this feedback from customers, partners, and others within the organization, you can unleash some amazing creativity and come up with new strategies and tactics to try. Fostering a culture of continuous learning, curiosity, and experimentation almost always leads to great things: for employees, for the organization, and for customers. And that? That's a win all the way around.
